parts are all cleaned and ready for re install. question about the shims. do the 1985.5 have them? i did not see any coming out. i'm referring to the .25 mm piece that sits on the 'radiator' and acts as spacer

You need to measure for this. Mine (actually wife's car) needed one 0.5mm shim. That car is also an 85.5.

job done, seals replaced. oprv aligned... using the old 3 pc oprv (should be okay right?), ran without dme relay plugged in and filter offer. made a bit of a mess but i could see the milk shake come out.. onto my pail and garage floor, then fresh oil. replaced the filter, kept topping up, ran with dme plugged in so engine running, really poured out the oil but all looked fresh. expecting the rod bearings are on their way out due to the 8 litres of milk shake i took out.. yes overflowed my 2 x 4L 'pails'. not sure what that was all about. other water mixing with oil and being pulled into the motor though i understood it's usually the other way 'round.

Btw, the coolant had no oil so... i'm looking under the car with it running and it is steadily dripping coolant... about 10 drops per second, checking the forums and think i have: water pump, water pump gasket, other seals?
I'm assembling more parts and specialty tools. Anyone in Toronto willing lend their flywheel tool and camsprocket lock or wait.. check clarksgarage..
  • Timing Belt Tensioning Tool (P9201)
  • Balance Shaft Spanner Wrench (P9200) or equivalent
  • Flywheel Lock (P9206)
I will likely change the timing belt while in there as i have no idea the age of the belt. don't want that breaking.
