A Vintage Porsche for Less Than $10,000? It’s a Great Investment, Too

Porsche 924s from the late 1970s and early ’80s are often overlooked—making them affordable and easy to find.

I hope 944s never increase in value. I hate when ever the totally human-made forces of supply and demand place nice things beyond the reach of us ordinary people.

Original clean unrestored low mileage well maintained will always go up in value. All the rest are considered junk by collectors and will still be cheaply available for bottom feeders. It’s the same for every desirable car marque, nothing new here.

I hope not. If the price of the car goes up so do the parts needed to keep these old cars on the road. I didn't build my car to sit in a garage.

I didn't observe that when I was following Ferrari 308s for a few years. Even the 'junky' ones still sold for over 20K during the last recession.
A 308-esque motor in a 944 would be sublime!

True, but even then "cheap" is relative. You used to be able to find rough-but-running 911SCs for under $15K. Good luck with that nowadays.

Similarly, you used to be able to find rough but salvageable 944s for a couple grand or less. It's been a few years now since I've seen anything worth saving for less than $4K or so.

Don’t believe the hype, there’s plenty asking but not many selling for those prices. Ive bought many (5) recently, including 951’s, for way under what people think they are worth on these forums. I repeat... only the best are fetching a premium and have buyers waiting. Yes people like to think that because a really good example sold for $10k their ratty example that needs work might be worth $5k. The logic is indeed weird.

People are so greedy! The wealth in these cars is in the work YOU put into them, and the enjoyment from driving them after said work. It's bad enough that other cars are set out as social status lawn art at car shows, while their owners hang out doing the whole wine and cheese thing nearby.

Those are Magnus walkers 924's. The 937 is worth 10k+ his stock 931 is super clean too with a pasha interior, its probably close to 10k for the right person. Clean OG 931s are just not something you see anymore.

I don't know man. Why are cars so cheap in the US? 4000 for a good running 944? There's nothing around here under 6500 euros... And the vast majority is waaay over 10K!

just about everything is cheaper in the US than EU.
but something like half or more of 944/924 production went to the US alone.

if somebody wants to give me $20,000 for my 944 and all the spare parts i've got, you can have it, LOL

Apart from the huge numbers of these cars in the US, another reason might be that the US cars are far inferior to the ROW cars both in bodywork and performance.
