Hey Wayne, the wheel for $229 is part# PEL-SPEC-911 for 911's. The wheel on your website for 944's is part # PEL-SPEC-2444-9364. It's listed at $249.85. Is it the same wheel?
How long is it going to be on sale?

I know exactly what you mean. This is why my credit card balance keeps creeping up. Those sneaky sob's at Chase even doubled my credit limit.

...Must...order...wheel.....Somebody stop me!!

i've been pondering this wheel for quite a while now - but i'm wondering a couple of things:
what do you think about NOT having an airbag in front of you anymore. i realize that these bags are now old, and are also early incarnations of the airbag system. since it can be violent (compared to current gen systems) i'm wondering if losing the bag is actually a good thing.

also - what would your insurance company think of this change? if they are insuring a car that they assume has a drivers side airbag, and you remove that bag, get in accident and the adjuster noticed the lack of the bag, what would the result be?

just wondering - that wheel looks really good....

I tend to think that no airbag is better than a 15 year old 1st generation airbag.

airbag should have NO effect on insurance. It is MORE expensive to insure an 87+ 951 with airbags (because the car is newer) than it is to insure an 86 with no airbags.

I have no airbag to begin with. I really want the 968CS wheel. The 930S wheel is the same thing only with 3 pieces of slicker leather instead of the 968CS's one piece of leather.

Thing is I really like the old 4 spoke wheel. It is a bit big, and the string is a bit harsh on my girlie hands, but damn, it's the same wheel as in the illustrious 959!!!

PS, 959 was officially only an 88MY car, right? no airbags in any 959 that I've seen...

That 4 spoke is huge! My 911 came with one, I was happy to replace it.

I agree with Damian. I got my 968CS wheel last year through Sunset Porsche with their lower price AND I used my $100 PCA discount coupon to get it. I dropped the price way down and I love the wheel. It's meaty, it feels great in your hands, it doesn't block enough of the instruments that you can't tell what's going on as some smaller wheels definitely would, and it looks very cool. I thought about the 930S wheel, but I felt like the crest on the wheel was a bit blatant and overstated...MHO, YMMV. I got the 968CS wheel and although people say that the impression of the Porsche crest is offset some, if it is, mine is very slight and it doesn't bother me. If you mess up putting your crest on, it could still not be centered

Anyway, those are my thoughts...either way, the wheel is a nice one to have in your hands while driving.

959 was never US certified when originally sold....Europe I don't think required the airbags at that point and Euro airbags from what I understand were always lower powered like newer ones here because they didn't have the stricter rules on what an airbag should do to the occupant of a vehicle (I think it was to prevent a 180 pound person from hitting their face on the wheel without wearing a seatbelt and in Europe it was designed to work in concert with the seatbelt from the outset....darned liability lawyers here in the US...). Even in the US I don't think airbags were required for the driver for a couple of years after that. I think 89 or 90 was the first year they were required here.

I think it was '92 when airbags became required equiptment. My wife had a '91 Nissan Sentra that had those god-awful motorized seat belts. From '89 to '92 until then cars had to have one or the other. (IIRC)

Also, Ian M has an 89 turbo, and if I recall correctly it has NO AIRBAGS!!

It's a Canadian car, too.

No airbags as standard on UK 44/68s right up to '95. Fortunately, this means we got the CS wheel as standard instead

It rocks, basically!

I figure an old airbag that is more violent is better than hitting your head against the steering wheel, or windshield, no??
