Sounds like comparing six apples to a half a dozen oranges, completely different cars, sharing only the Porsche badge. I'm glad you enjoyed the 924S... that one looks very much like mine except for the steering wheel being on the wrong side (take your pick which one is on the wrong side).
Things not mentioned are maintenance, repairs and parts availability. I imagine the Boxster wins for parts availability and access to experienced mechanics, the 924S in my opinion is a DIY car... not worth it if you are going to pay someone to work on it. Likely the 924S is easier to work on, especially in terms of access to the engine... I could be wrong since I've never touched a Boxster.

I've never driven a 924S, but I used to have an '84 944, which I imagine is pretty similar. My dad has a Boxster with the base 2.5 engine, so I guess I'm qualified to make a comparison Between the 924S or 8-valve 944 and a Boxster, I'd take the Boxster.
But between a Boxster and my 944S, it's a much closer call. I prefer the look of the 944 and the driving position (I actually feel cramped in a Boxster whereas in my 944 I'm comfortable), the old-school feedback and chassis, and the better practicality and DIY friendliness. I think the extra power you get with the S (and even moreso the S2/Turbo/968) tips the scales.
They're all great cars, and I'm probably biased, but for me, it's 944 (almost) all the way.

I suppose it depends on what you are looking for. The Boxster is newer, faster and a convertible while the 924s is older, slower, and a hard top. I replaced my wrecked Boxster with a 944, but i do miss my Boxster some days. The sound of a screaming flat six and a roaring intake from just behind your left ear is an amazing sound. Dropping the top and going for a ride is nice too. The 944 handled better than the Boxster, in my opinion and is more usable. i have gone grocery shopping with an infant and a stroller in the 944 and had no space issues. Either way you should have a good, fun car.
