Question Supercharging a 1985 944 N/A - POSITIVE FEEDBACK ONLY!

I've used the search function, I'm not buying a 951 and I'm not doing an engine swap...

Please share links, or comment if you can share success stories or tips?

Not planning on getting a complete kit unless you guys change my mind.

Also some feedback or conversations about hardware

    Regards

ive been slowly working on this for a decade now...
m90 is tried and true because they are so available..
    951 intercooler will work fine
    microsquirt will work fine
no reason to use oddball/expensive 951 injectors though, you can make just about anything work...

what else do you want to know?

Most positive thing I can say is......no. Way more work than you can imagine to make it work correctly.

sharq's garage assistant here - I hand him spanners and in return he lets me touch his 944 sometimes

This is my first post here. I just wanted to thank you for this answer, V2Rocket. It confirms and clarifies quite a few things I've been trying to understand

edit: I also really appreciate this answer:

What's your power goal? Definitely add a wideband a beefier transaxle to your list. Stock clutch is good for 944S2 power levels according to Porsche. You'll like the Microsquirt, I run the same ECU...but skip the 951 injectors. There are hundreds of newer injectors you can run that are a direct swap, have a better spray patter, and have whatever impedance you decide to go with (high-Z in 2 pairs works best for Microsquirt).

WOW, thanks. I'm sure it's worth the insanity of it. I'm just starting to investigate options with my partner in crime. Please share if there is something that comes to mind that could help us out.

Thanks again for all the replies. Hope you don't mind me stealing the attention here sharq

I'm wondering now if there is significant difficulty in getting sensor signals out of the motor that the Microsquirt accepts. Do Microsquirts understand those crank position sensors etc. that are in the motor already?

Thanks dude, all these tidbits are adding to the knowledge bank.
On power, I'm not really aware of the range possible by adding a blower. That's one of the unanswered questions. How high can I go? How high is sensible?

Nothing is really that difficult, it just requires you to sit down and be willing to research and learn about everything, which can take weeks if you've never done it before. Don't half-*** this - get a plug and play system if you aren't willing to do wiring and dive deep into engine management details.

This is not a magic formula, it's just what I did:

Don't waste your time trying to make the stock crank pickups work with Microsquirt. It's possible but the correct way to do it requires more work than just adding a front mount reluctor wheel.

typical m90 will run out of breath by 300hp. need a heavily ported case to get more.

Then there is getting the parts. I live in Iceland so getting parts might be a hassle. probably most can be gathered from eBay (Eaton, intercooler) - I have to see if part sales here have any Eaton M90

A twin screw could work well too, plus the heat transfer to the air will be less. The Mazda Millennia has a unit that's a good fit for the 2.5l....but when they wear out, rebuilds aren't really viable compared to other units.
