Default Short shifter kit problems

My S2 track car that I've been beating on for 9 years has developed an issue. The 10mm cone nut keeps backing out. I tried locktiting it in place, I bought a new one, I tried drilling through it in order to wire it in, but I keep breaking bits in the jog when attempting to do so.

I was thinking of just replacing the kit with a new one. I'm worried the hole is hogged out. The cone nut doesn't seem to fit flush with the block anyhow. Anyone have any suggestions? What SS kits were out about 10 years ago? (I didn't install this).

Thanks

Instead of relying on the cone-bolt, could you drill all the way through the trans shaft and shifter rod, to use a through-bolt with nut?

That's a question for folks that know this better. Isn't that actually drilling through a part of the transmission? Not the kit?

What kind of SSK do you have? You can always drill/tap/helicoil the linkage arm.

my suggestion was to drill thru the metal bar (long, towards bottom left on this photo) and do a thrubolt w nut.

Not sure what kit I've got ... The PO put it on.

I see what you mean about drilling the bar. Might see if that works for me.

The more I think about it, I think it's the little hole in that billet looking piece that the cone but goes into. At least that seems to be where I have to keep tightening.

FWIW, I just recently installed the Only944 kit and it doesn't include the cone bolt, that's one you can only get from Porsche I think. Mine was already drilled for safety wire so yours might be a "homemade" version?

I can look p the part # in the PET if you need it.

The cone bolt goes into the long "L" shaped bar. You see that cone shaped divot on the bottom left of Spencer's photo? The shifter linkage slips over that rod and the cone bolt secures the two together.

I checked the PET and now I can't find a special part # for that bolt, I was sure there was one but that was from reading up on it over a year ago. I was very careful to not lose that bolt, I remember that much at least.
