968 Wheels and exhaust
Hi - I'm not new to Porsche, but am new to owning a 968, and despite my research, am having a hard time find specific, straight answers to the following questions. Appreciate any responses. Thanks.
What are the preferred wheel widths and offsets for the 968?
What aftermarket exhaust(s) are people most happy with, in terms of sound?

Welcome to 968 ownership. Fantastic cars.
We have a dedicated 968 forum here on RL. You can find it here:

Also, you can learn a lot about the 968 at the PCA website here:
http://968register.org/
As for wheels, if you want the best factory look the 17" cup 1 design would be correct for your 92.

The 968 accepts the same wheels as a narrow body 993/996. If the car has the stock suspension, you can go with a 18x8.5" wheel (offset: 50-55) for the front and a 18x10" (offset: 60-65) for the rear.

There's no "established" preferred wheel size. It depends on what you like to do with the car, how much tire you want, what particular wheel design you like (and what sizes they limit you to), etc.
On the rear, you can fit 10" wide wheels easily, with whatever offset the 996 wheels come in (63?). 11" wide wheels can fit too, but you either need just the right offset and tire width, or else some camber adjustment. On the front, I've run 245s with 17x7 et55 and it rubbed. Others have run wider tires and not rubbed. Maybe it's because I was lowered by more than an inch.
Regarding exhaust, I feel I must give you a disclaimer, don't have high expectations, after all this car is a 4-cylinder. That said, my favorite 968 sound comes from one with a custom Borla, followed by B&B.

Thanks for all the input. I have the stock 16"s on my car now, and they are in rough shape, so was looking at the 17" Cup 1s and IIs, as well as the Porsche 18"s. I wasn't sure which 18"s would have a stock fitment, so I appreciate the info on those as well. Now to find the right set......

I wonder if the wheel width has something to do with it - a 245 on a 7" rim is probably going to bulge a bit.

Yes, the tires were a little too wide for the wheel, but I don't think that was a factor. Also, the 968 wheel well liner has some extra features which may protrude and make it easier to rub. My tires rubbed only when I turned the wheel quite a bit, like sharp turns or parking maneuvers.
