Replacing 924 AC
So I've looked around the forum, couldn't find a good thread about updating/replacing A/C (please point if I missed). I have a 1987 924 S, and want to get the A/C running before it gets too warm.....
The compressor looks to be shot, and as I understand it these should be converted to R134A. Auto Atlanta wants ~$500 for all the parts necessary, and thats not counting replacing any bad hoses.
Thoughts on parts sourcing, and where to start with an overhaul (or should I just do the minimum required)? I am reading Clark's Garage manual on this, but wanted to tap the vast wealth of knowledge here.

If compressor is shot:
New Denso Compressor with clutch,
New Drier,
Oring kit,
Ester oil and R134a charge port adapters.
New drive belt.
Inspect hoses.
Liquid flush hoses and condenser.
R&R, Evacuate, Charge and Test.
If you really want to do the job right.... take of the expansion valve, liquid flush the evap core, clean off the evap fins, and if there are any foam gaskets around the core replace them

^^that covers it...
luckily the 924S has the early 944 style AC system under the dash (but uses late 944 compressor) so all the o-rings are pretty easy to replace.
if you are dedicated you can do the whole job in a day...

CLEAN CLEAN CLEAN
Be careful if the compressor is damaged or burnt up make you check the expansion valve for block edge , also same thing for a ruptured Desiccant Bag ( located inside the dryer ) you have the little particles in the system. blow the compressed air away from the the expansion valve .
(thus it disconnected)
if it just a bad clutch and or bearing and the guage readings are fine then no worries
