1980 porsche 924 gearbox/drivetrain problem
i have a porsche 924 from the year 1980. i started up on tuesday 15th december 2015 and went to put it in first gear and it wouldnt move, tried 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th and reverse and there is no acknowledgement of the car wanting to drive. this is very frustrating as i have nearly finished restoring her to original condition. the engine is in perfect condition and has only done 55,253 miles.
if anyone has had this problem before or is having the same problem and might know the problem of it please let me know about this.
thanks Kai

If the problem occurs in all gears, have you checked the clutch?

I have not no. Dont want to take anything off until i been told roughly what it could be. My grandfather with experiance working on classic porsches has told me it could be my clutch plate has rusted too much and needs cleaning or replacing

It could be anything from the shift linkage to the internals of the gearbox(unlikely, but not impossible). Can you give us some more info? What does it do when the clutch is let out in neutral or a gear? Any noise vibration or anything else unusual happen? Does it seem to go into gear when you attempt to move the shifter in? Does the car roll at all when pushed?
I recently had a incident with my 944 that locked itself solid so there were a few things I needed to check before I came to my conclusion.

Its rolls when pushed. I noticed it happen when i went to put in gear with clutch on and it wouldnt go into gear. Tried putting into gear with no clutch, little reaction this time (grinding when forced with no clutch)

The gear stick is just sloppy and can be moved about forwards, backwards, left and right with one finger and go through geara that way. Had to use more strength when it was working properly. It had happened when i was driving, pulled off in first all fine, went into second. Bit weird this gear. Got to third and it was coming and going. Stopped and tried going again and wouldnt move

So it seems to "clunk" into gear with the lever ok? Trying to think what would make a difference here before and after. I would be checking the linkage at the gearbox to see maybe if something has come loose. I've heard of broken shift forks before but doesn't seem like this is what's going on. See if you can get to the linkage on top the gearbox and feel if anything feels odd. If you can have someone give you a hand working the shifter inside the car while you peek at the gearbox end to watch what happens that will throw the shifter to gearbox out of the equation.
