Aluminium Torque Tube ?
 
Anyone dabble, consider or know of someone who made this?

Yeah, I've built a couple over the years and the weight savings per dollar spent benefit is up to the owner.

However the last one I did, we didn't weld the tube to the cast Alloy trans housing flange. I machined a bolt-on plate so the housing wouldn't crack under all the Torque at the weld.
