Default WOD to LSD conversion?

Is it possible to swap a wide open diff to a Limited slip? The parts for an LSD are on pelican but would it just be a matter of pull out the WOD and put in the LSD? Or do you need an LSD trans? If it makes a difference I have a T016QK.

Yes, they are replaceable. You remove the WOD and install the LSD in its place. Then you have to set up your pre - load and back lash.

I have an used OEM ZF LSD for 016 transmission that I can rebuilt and install in your transmission. Sent me a PM or e-mail if interested

How hard is it to open the trans and replace the diff? Is it a diy job? Or is there a lot of specialty tools required? Roughly how long would it take for an average backyard mechanic?

Replacing it is not that hard. You do need specialty tools and some know how. The ring gear has to be moved to the LSD as well as the carrier bearings unless you are replacing them. You will need about 4 hours if all goes smoothly.

I'm assuming it uses a clutch pack LSD, as there are only clutch pack plates on pelican. Does the WOD case have the space cut out for the external splines? Or does the entire case and all gears have to be replaced? As far as I can tell the plates are all that is available on pelican. In short, would I NEED to source a core, or just add pieces?

The differentials are completely different from one another. The casings are different. You wjll need a complete used or rebuilt LSD. The LSD is the clutch type. I carry rebuilt units. If interested, sent me a PM or email.
