I knew that the 88 SE had the same engine configuration as the 944. I did not know that the non-SE 924S cars from 88 shared the higher output engine.

There seems to be some variation in the options the SE cars had. Sunroof, AC, number or mirrors, existence of mud guards, I know of SE cars that did not have wider rear wheels, and SE cars that did not have adjustable front dampers. The options listed on the Vin tag seem to vary all over the place. When you read about these cars, you get generalized statements regarding what they should have on them. In my mind, the best identification of a SE is the option code 756, the mo3o suspension (mo3o may not be listed with the options, mine was not.), and the combination of black exterior and burgundy accented interior.

The 924S on the medallion appears to have euro bumpers and cookie cutter wheels. odd.

Thanks for the pix. PPI is supposed to be done tomorrow and I'll decide whether I'm buying it or not..

MSWain, you are in OC? If I get it back to L.A. we'll have to get together and examine the medallion

Hey MSwain! Does your car have,

6 and 7" inch wheels
m030
burgundy carpet
Cloth striped seats
Black paint?

I saw yourlisting in the 924 register, and was just wondering.

No. I dont think so. I would put it in the high 200s. Say, near #260.

there wouldn't be a porsche site that would list all the vins for an 88 924S along with option codes? yeah i seriously doubt it, but it'd be awesome if you could get your hands on something like that, it would make guessing which # of the 500 SE's a little bit easier...

as of yet, I have not found such a list of vin #. I have been looking, with no luck.
I have been compiling a list of what vin#s I can find for the 1988 924S cars. I do not yet have enough info to tell exactally where a car falls in production, but i can come close. If I ever reach that point I will let everybody know.

Unhappy PPI done....car flunks!

Got the results of the PPI yesterday. Not good news. Car is a mess. I did a 1-hour inspection and didn't bother with going to a compression/leakdown test when I was told that the front end seals were all leaking badly, timing belt soaked with oil, motor mounts bad, paint very bad, oil pan gasket leaking, water pump starting to leak, suspension bushings all worn out. Interior with seat covers that the mechanic didn't pull, but owner said there were seams coming apart. There's more, but why go on. It's not un-salvageable, but it's definitely more of a project than I want to take on and the price + shipping makes it an instant upside-down situation. Car is in Michigan and if anyone here has the facilities and/or interest to take on the project, I can pass your info on to the seller.

Well, I'm still interested and will keep my eyes peeled for another chance. This thread has helped a lot. If anyone knows of one in good shape at a reasonable price, I'd be interested in it.

That sounds about the shape mine was in when I got it. I ended up buying it for $2k. Its been an adventure so far, and Im about to drop the oil pan to preventatively replace rod bearings and replace motor mounts.
