In answer to the query on the results of the 15" vrs 16" comparison, the results for the 15" were not as good as I had hoped but that was attributable to the characterstics of the Michelin Pilot Sport Cups not the wheel diameter. I posted a long entry on the "Michelin Pilot Sport Cup Setup" Thread (6-26-2003) on the Racing Forum describing the results.

I've got 2 87 924-Ss. One a dailey driver with 16,000,, ere, I mean 116,000,,, er, woops, I mean 216,000 miles on it. The other is a project which isn't going anywhere very fast. Both black on black. The Dailey driver has no sunroof, and the project one does (one reason I got it).

Having owned and daily driven mine for what's going on 6 years- I have to admit i'm rather partial to the 924S. Now that it's parked next to the "new" 944 I have to say I understand the "fat is good" thought behind the 944. It's not the same body, but undoubtedly the same design mold.

After looking at the 944 sitting next to the 924S for the last month- all I can say is I'm glad I have both. Picking which one to drive can take a few minutes some days.

Thanks to all who replied.

the numbers are.. considering a 25% attrition rate this is how rare we are.. It's among Porsche's least produced ..production car ever.

1986 total produced 3356 US 0
1987 total 8940 ROW 1993 US 6947
1988 total 4193 ROW 2003 US 2190
production ended 9/88

total 16,669 ROW 7532 US 9137

ROW= Rest Of World.

that leaves about 6,000 in existence in the US, althought i'd bet it's quite a bit less..

I have a 1987 924S. Its Zermatt Silver, original paint still looking damn good. Its almost all stock, just K&N filter (how cliche eh?), soon a peformance throttle cam and possibly a KLA strut brace in the very near future. My only hatred of the car is its 3-speed automatic transmission. Although thats not the cars fault. Ive had the car about 11 months now, its taught me alot about engine work with the amount of stuff thats needed/needing to be fixed. Unsure of the mileage, odometer stopped at 38K in '99. I figure its somewhere in the ballpark of 70K at this point.

Despite my handle, I LOVE my '87 924S (Silver). It's got ~120Kmi on it, and is getting a little rough around the edges, but it's a fabulous daily driver. I plan to keep it forever.

I've got one too. Its a stable mate for my '86 Turbo. 60K original Miles, bought for the first owner. Black/Black NO OPTIONS. Really clean, and it's going to be my Autocross/DE car. This thing is very light, without a sunroof and all. Kinda off looks like a puppy dog next to the Turbo, but is still a blast on the back road. I'm going the full M030/Koni path over the winter. I'll post some pictures on the first sunny day here. I only got her on Friday.

My GT Racer is just an idea at this time. It will be my 3 year project car. I hope to have my first car in PCA I Class in April at Road Atlanta. Then I want to learn to drive the 924 very good before I move up in HP. Any articles that you know of, or ideas on the best race engine to use for a 924 in GT3/GT4 would be appreciated.

for GT4: 2.8L with about 300hp and you need to get the car down to about 2200lbs.

think 2.7 911 light weight when you think about who'll you'll be running against

by the way that "long term club racing project" in my sig will be a GT4 car

I have an 88 924S. It is black with the sport option that gave it coil overs up front, deleted pass. mirror, no power anything and no rear wiper. Just tipped 100k but not currently running. Got it from a friend with a blown head gasket and haven't fixed it yet. It is currently torn apart though.

As soon as the CRX is fixed, and then the blower is put on the Camaro, and the 5.0 gets another shortblock, well you get the idea. I have so much I have to do before I can get to the Porsche. Every time I think about it though, I can't wait. I have never driven one before.

Tim, Turbo it and it will be GT3 but na goes GT4 and very under powered at that! My friend runs GT4 with a 911 w/290 HP at a weight around 2000lbs. Huge horse power discrepency indeed!
Sad thing is we need a class all to ourselves as our na cars can only run amongst others with the same car. Hence 944 Cup! But PCA the only place to run them and be competitive is in "I" class only. I feel GT5 would work better than trying to run GT4!
Well good luck on your project(s)! Dal
