Count me in as well. The '87 924S has the coveted 2nd slot in my two car garage, right along side the 951!

New member, '87 924s, black / grey-beige with 136K on the clock, mechanically sound, needs more time from me for some TLC.

88 924S, black/black

Geoff, I've not had the chance to drive at Nelson, but I have been out to the track. It has a bad reputation as having crappy pavement and being a crummy course, but the locals seem to think it is a fun track. From what the folks in my region say it is a no brakes course. It also seems to have a fair amount of runoff. I don't really know for sure what is going on out there as far as upkeep, but rumor a while back was that they were going to repave and add curbing in the corners. I know they have a new starters stand.

All I can say is that if the motorcycle clubs will race on the course it can't be that bad (rough).

1987 924S Black w/tan interior...
Saving it from previous abusive driver, not owner. Needs a lot of work, including engine rebuild, dent removal and respray, new suspension setup, new dash (cracked), new seats (ripped), sunroof gear, new exhaust... I think you guys get the point.

Michael,

I've raced at Nelson Ledges twice in my 924S and did a number of motorcycle races there in the 80's and 90's.

The track is a lot of fun in the 924S race car. It really rewards preservation of momentum and has some quick corners. In the 2001 PCA I class races(na 924S and 944) we had a good field of 16 cars. I wasn't the fastest (I got 3rd place in both races) but was lapping within 2 or 3 seconds of the fastest 944 turbo. This was an average speed of around 90 mph, in a 158 hp na car!, so you can see it is a quick track. After racing there on the bikes, I didn't notice the bumps when I drove the car. The track is rough though and the facilities are "rustic" to say the least.

By the way, M758, I've got me a set of 15 inchers and I'm putting Pilot Sport Cups on them. I'm going to heat cycle the tires at Mosport this weekend (June 7 and 8) and them use them in the enduro at the Watkins Glen PCA race the weekend after. I'll also have a pretty new set of 16" Hoosiers at the Glen so I'll be able to compare and will use the fastest tire for qualification.

I'll report on how it goes.

I have a 1987 924S in guard's red that I just picked up for $1800. 55K miles and in really nice shape. I have put a couple thousand miles on it in the last 2 months since I bought it and I am totally impressed. I plan to do the belt thing this weekend as I have no idea when or if they have ever been serviced.
Fun Cars!

Hello all,
My first Porsche is an 87 924S that is being converted into a 924GTR less of course the turbo engine. Eva, the car, is being built at Stratton Motorsports in Winter Park Florida and I've got to say that Gary and Jay (father/son) have bent over backwords to make this a kick *** ride. They have always taken the time to talk me through every aspect of the construction of my car. The Stratton's have built both street and track configurations of this car and I couldn't be happier with what they've done.
Eva was being built to be a track car but when I told Gary what I was looking for he said he had, "just what you're looking for". He showed me the car, very rough then, and the hook was set. She'll be on the road in two weeks and I'll be posting pics then.
Thanks Gary and Jay for a great time.
Regards,
Steve Edmonds

i kinda resent the fact that you think we (944 owners) look down our noses at you. i happen to think the 924/924S is a gorgeous car, even though i like those with the fenders a bit more. a porsche is a porsche, no matter what anyone says, they're designed by porsche, and i'm sure porsche wouldnt let anything out of the factory with their name on it if it was crap... although i may eat my words on the cayenne... but seriously, i think that most, if not all of the 944 owners in the know think that the 924 series are fabulous cars. now about your faster? i find it hard to see this, perhaps a slight slight small difference at best, but who knows, i've never maxed out my car next to a 924s either nor do i plan to. people love the 924S for the track, and i'll say it does quite well. i pit crewed for nort northam (nortsport) at moroso a few years ago at the longest night, his 924S took 2nd in class behind an 83 944... hmm... <img border="0" alt="[cheers]" title="" src="graemlins/beerchug.gif" />

so congrats guys, you have fabulous cars! i just wish more people were in the know and you didnt feel like you were looked down on for owning our fenderless counterparts

take care and drive safe,
-Michael

Well to be honest, I did look down on 924S's for a while (I dont represent your average 944 owner!) until I saw a few in person...they are beautiful without the flares!

We've got a 87 924S, and sold a 88 924S to a friend who is building a track car out of it.

Here's another.
I've got a 1988 924S that is being used as a track car (ITS Specs) and will be joining the GTS Challenge soon. Thus far, I've done 4 DE with the car and I'm amazed at how quick and forgiving it is.

FYI, it has 15 inch wheels runing 225/45R15 Hoosiers. Very sticky.
