It was lightened by a bit, but wasn't a great deal lighter than a stripped 931.

Did you do those V8 swaps yourself? I know of quite a few people interested in the whole 924 V8 thing.

The swaps are real easy, however, I wouldn't do one unless I had a blown engine already and couldn't afford to buy a recon unit and at least two written letters of permission from BPG I'm just about to rock the cart again with a 350 combo 930, initial test have a 1/2 power pass at 10.1 secs no gas. will be tuning the chassis when my husband has time to get the car to the track, which is almost impossable as we just recieved conformation of visa to move to Toronto in 4 months working in The Hospital for Sick Children, so any locals around that area hear a 930 not sounding quite right, that will be me as it's coming with me, the rest are going to be sold at a extreemly good profit so I can replace machinery, if any one know any scorces for Bridgeport Mill's (CNC prefered) and laithes that will at minimum take a 14 inch flywheel I'd be most apreciative.

You're leaving England for Canada? I personally want to get out of this country as soon as possible. It's a wonderful place, but the politics are becoming more and more like Americas.

I live on the west coast, which is arguably the best part of Canada to live in, and it's still getting bad.

Do you think you could send me an email outlining the V8 swap? I know a ton of people who are interested in doing this.

I have owned my 88 924s for 3 years now, and after MANY niggling problems,(Power window switches, sunroof, suspension, fuel delivery...) it has been a daily driver since Feb- Gets a little squirrely in 3" of snow (GASP!), but I wouldnt trade it for any 944. I have a friend who has a 944 and mine beats it by 175' in a quarter mile. NO PERFORMANCE MODS, Oh yeah- Its an Auto- His is 5 spd.

Adie you've always got my permission to do a swap.

Hey, since you're gonna be in Toronto maybe we can SEE your 10 second 924 V8 - I'm 40 minutes outside Toronto, traffic permitting. When will you be here? I can show you and your husband Cayuga or St. Thomas dragways and you can repeat that 10 second run for all us 924 fans. If you guys buy me a hot dog I'll pay $50 of your track fee as a Welcome To Canada gift.

You won't believe this Adie, but some people think a reliable 10 second 924 built for 500 pounds is a bunch of horsecrap, so seeing you do it for us fans will be a real knockout to those skeptics! When will you be here?

Hopefully there won't be any 'unforseen circumstances' that keep your 10 second, 500 pound 924 V8 car from making it to the St. Thomas or Cayuga dragways...

Firstly I can afford my own entry fee's. As previously stated I'm moving in 4 months Visa permitting, the car will hopefully be comming with me as well as the new one, I just need to find an acceptable way of shipping. Nice to know that theres a drag strip near by, I'm gonna need to do some work when I arrive but I'm sure to find time to shove that hot dog up your ***. I'll look forward to racing your little 924, we can even drive to the strip together. As for the 500 pounds thing, unfortunatly you can add new tyres now and the cost of No2, a reliable shift light and a new Tach. If you want to reproduce the car and pay for someone to do the engine work and chassis mods then add a 0 on the end at least. Still if the car stays here I'll probably build another and ship my engine accross and use that. Either way as long as I can get the Visa I'm there, funny but the same SOME PEOPLE still think about racing while others are still doing it on whatever budget they have, hows your racing season going????
Sorry to the other listers who have to suffer the rantings of a out of date squable that should have been laid to rest ages ago,

Ammendment to previous post, BPG thanks for the names of the nearest strips, I will be there if I get the job I want but if you see me there please don't aproach me. To much has already been said for me to be hospitable to you. As you have made me realise, it's not a porsche anymore so you should have no interest in it whatsoever. I'll race under the banner of x.l.r.8 as I always have done, and as you own a different car to me there no reason to compare them.
Back to topic, I'd still take the carrera. Like for like with no additional mods should be the comparison, light weight always works for me.

My advice is pull your engines and take them with you. The bodies are worth $500 each, but the shipping will probably run you $3000 a piece... The only economical way of doing it would be to buy a 5x13m storage container($10-15K) and rent the space on a cargo ship. The only way to do it without breaking the bank is to find a buyer for the cargo container on the east coast of Canada.

Anyways! Back to the important issue at hand, the ultimate 924. I like this one

I think the ultimate 924 is the Carrera GTR though.

I really don't understand the hostility being shown here. What is so hard to believe about getting a 924S to run 10's in the quarter mile? Tens are not hard to accomplish, take a warmed over small block V-8 and stuff it a 3200lb car like a Dodge Dart or Chevy Nova (or whatever) and tens are a reality. Now put that same engine in a 2600lb car like a 924S and nine's shouldn't be a problem. Check out this Chevy powered 924:

Now everyone shake hands and play nice!

Damn, paint that sucker silver and it could be mine, so much for originality. Where do you get these pics from.

I stole the pic from another forum. Someone had posted it to insult the idea of making a racecar out of a Porsche but I thought it was amazing so I saved it. Have any pics of yours?

There was a few pics on the UK superseries web site from last year, no pics of this years racing yet though. I should get a camera but all funds are being swallowed into prepairing for the big move, need to tidy the house to rent it out and sort out if I can bring the 930 and the 924 with me, the rest will be sold off as I have some racers that want my tow car and my bike which I'll be most sorry to see go. The only other thing I want/must pack is the stereo as I'm not sure if you can get Linn in Canada. I even thought about bricking up the garage doors and leaving the cars here but hubby thought that was a bit extreeme....MEN!

Tell your hubby he's a lucky man Most women I know would want to ditch the cars.

I would sell the cars, the shipping is way too much. I looked into a nice holiday in Europe, and found out it would be cheaper to rent a TVR Cerbera for 2 weeks than to bring my car.

Actually I'm quite interested! I'd love to see it! And as for hostility, there's none whatever. I'm dying to see how you can build such a race car for what amounts to $700 USD. Who wouldn't be excited?

There are other dragstrips too, and glad you're bringing the car. When will you be here?

Hey, just cause I ask for a little verification on the cost issue that shouldn't make for bad feelings. I'm just following up on that $700 figure and going with it.

PS: As far as the hot dog up my butt idea goes, please know that as long as it's you, Adie, a woman with a wrench in her hands, I totally relish the idea!

Excellence, you're right. You CAN put a 340 into a Dart and whoa, it'll move. I think you have to follow previous threads wherein claims about '500 pounds' to make a 10 second car were made. It just seemed hard to believe.

I still DO find it difficult to believe anyone can make a 10 second car for what amounts to $700 USD. Whether it's a Dart, Cuda, Mustang, IROC or 924. Please do accept my sincerest, warm apologies, Adie, for any hard feelings generated from my doubting you in the past. Let's move forward.

Believe me, if I can get a 10 second car out of an old 924 of mine in the yard for $700 USD, I'd do it. Who wouldn't? Come on!

Adie, if you can make a V8 924 for such little cost, a fantastic, amazing feat, well, hey, please, show us how for such little money you can make a winner out of a 924 on the dragstrip - you may actually start a new trend and maybe revolutionize drag racing - you can make it an accessible sport for all of us! And that's a good thing.

Here's some pics of Adie's car...it's awesome...but $700 USD? You be the judge.

Brakes, suspension, and numerous other peripherals not included...
