Autothority chip -- hard start culprit ?

Autothority chip -- hard start culprit ?
my car has been starting hard and running rich with no stable idle (fluctuates and drops) is it possible that the chip is responsible ?

Dear Jeff,
Very likely. Reinstall original chip and see what happens. The engine control unit, fitted to the 1985.5 944 is not suited to take these chips, despite what the sellers claim. Much has been written on this in the past and can be found in the archives.

PS: The engine control units pre 1989 times are pretty basic and it is hard to improve on basic.
