In 1988, factory says 8 seconds flat 0-60, top speed 137. These figures are for the catalyst-model... the '87 ones were 0.3 seconds slower to 60, and 134 all out. On the e-mail lists though, I've seen people claim that their 944's can close in on 140. I'm guessing that on a good day, a 924S could do even better.. but I don't own one either, so I can't speak from experience... although that almost changed this past summer Damn school loans always getting in my way!

Car and Driver tested the first 924S getting a 0-60 in 7.5 secs. I've seen 7.4 in other magazines, although Road and Track got 7.8 for the 0-60 dash.

The top speed is 137 mph.

Car magazines also noted that the 924S is quite a bit faster than a 944 in the top end. For example, the 924S hits 100 mph almost a full second more than the 944.

As an owner of a (stock) 87 924S, I can say that it compares very favorably to the modern Hondas. Even though some of these cars have more horsepower, few of them have the mid range punch that the 924S has.

I tried a 924S one time and it was a really nice feeling car to drive. It was responsive and peppy. I was at around 220 KPH before I realized what I'd done. It's an excellent highway car.

I don't think that when you match up a rice boy to a porsche 924S/944, it can keep up in the handling department. Porsche's are not designed to be stoplight racers, but put them on the track or road with turns, that when the porsche shines!

Hey, check the race record at Le Mans or Sebring.

A 24S will run with an early 911 with no problem, provided you've set up the suspension. I run yellow adj. Koni's front and rear, 250lb. front springs and 29mm rear bars, a cup front sway bar and a Weltmiester in the rear. I'm using 16" wheels from an '87 951 (7's & 8's) with Hoosier's 225/50 fronts and 245/45 rears (it's REAL close). A Stabil Energies strut tower brace finishes off the suspension. The motor is basicly stock with a cone filter, MSD headers and a chip. Now as for 133 MPH top speed I carry about 110 into the Bowl (South turn) at Pocono and can stand on it all the way around the turn and down the front straight. I've glanced down at the speedo just before the braking zone and saw around 120+, but I don't know how accuate the speedo is.

you can fit 245's on the back? with my stock tires i barely have clearance..you must have a fairly higher offset to get clearance...don't those big tires weigh the car down though?

As I said it's REAL close, I've rolled the fenders and pulled in a slight flair. The wheels are stock off-set from an '87 turbo '44. The tires don't seem top weigh the car down but they certainly do stick.

what do you recommend then without worrying about rolling the fenders? 215's in front 235's in back? or a more common 205/225?

If you're going to leave the fenders alone I'd use the 205/225 combination. Tire brand also is a consideration, with Dunlop SP8000's on the car (street/rains) everything just clears, with the Hooziers I needed an 1/8th inch shim to keep the fronts off the springs and there is some evidence of very slight touching on the inside of the rear wheel well.

Cool

My no frills '87 924S at 80,000miles, runs up to 120 mph then it runs out of breath. Its still pulling, but past its prime.
