Default 1985 911 rims on a 1988 924 S

Hey everyone,
Just bought a 1988 924 S today! It is nice to be back in the 944/924/968 family. I have been gone a few years but I am back and hopefully for good. My questions is this, I have a 1985 911 came stock with 16X6's & 7's. Currently they are sitting in my basement! I was told by the Rennlist member who I bought it from today that my fuchs would fit! Is this true? If it is not true what are the widest tires I can get under it in the front and rear on the stock phone dials (15x6's)? Thanks for the help guys! Best wishes - Jay Gratton

Nope, won't fit. Wrong backspacing (offset).

You can fit 205 or maybe 215 width tires. 215s will likely rub though with stock diameter springs.

Thanks Mike, I am sorry to hear that, but I am glad to know before I start re-doing my fuchs! Best wishes - Jay Gratton

Yeah, you'd get horrific tire rub with the early offset.

The Fuchs alloys would look terrible on the 924S anyway............. The 7 x 15 Late offset phone dials will fit fine with 225's all around. That's what we run on the 944-spec cars. The offset is 52.3. These came on the 87-88 924S and the 87-88 944.

Welcome back, I recently bought myself a 924 after a while without one too. I'm in the prosses of re-doing the hole car on wich I will shortly post something.
In the mean time here's what I did with my wheels - I had the spokes painted gloss black (resembling the fuchs), the outside polished and painted the crest in the center with hobby paint. I did the centers on my 928 quite a while back and they're still like the day I did them.

Here's a pic

I have a set of these wheels I am looking to sell. Fit great on a street 924S.
Ideal tire size is 205/55 R16.

16x6 52.3 mm offset. Forged Flat Dish wheels orginally off a 924 Turbo. 18.5 lbs each

Here are the center caps.

I have more detailed pics too. Just shoot me a PM...

i know that the 7'' d90's will fit front and rear no problem. I am looking at buying some right now but we are still to check to see if the 8" rears will fit under the quarters.

Bump.

Any ideas of other options on the wheels and wheels offsets that might fit on a lowered 924S ?

WOW, bring back an old post! I ended up running 16x6&7's D90s on the car. They worked out nicely!

If you can find a phone dial wheels from '89 944, you can fit 205 55 15 on the front and 225 50 15 0n the back and it will seat perfect and not rub at all. That's what I currently have right now.

This thread might help with fitment on the 924's narrow body work:
