931 fuel filter
I have an '82 931 with a Mahle KL8 fuel filter. I can't find this filter anywhere. I have looked all over the net and just can't find one. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I think I've been successful in getting them from Jason at Paragon... see Sponsors link above, if needed...

Mann filters (another OEM supplier) are available from the following source for $31.09 each.

Thanks, Vaughn, I called Paragon and Jason answered and got me a Mahle KL8 for $18.00 plus shipping. Much better than the $40+ listed on other sites, where you get a filter that may or may not fit. Be carefull with the 931 fuel filters, as the cross reference numbers for Wix and Bosch show are filters which need new fittings to work.
Does anyone know what the OEM filter was?

I have recently bought a Purolator that has the 931.110.149.00 part number on it. It was manufactured in W. Germany in 1986. These are on sale from 928 Intl for $5 plus shipping. The part number is for the early turbos but will fit my 81 if the existing inlet fitting is used. Mahle, Mann and Purolator all make filters for Porsche.

It sounds like OEM. I ordered a KL8 from Paragon over a month ago and it still hasn't arrived. I heard there was a one year backorder for the KL8 from another dealer. I'll check with Paragon to see if the KL8 is on the way, if not, I'll order the Purolator and have a mechanic change the fittings if neccessary. If it has a 931 part number, it must be the one. My 82 931 has a Purolator filter-like housing with the brand clearly on top, so Purolator is deffinately OEM. Thanks for the heads-up on a great source. I hope they have a lot in stock.

Here's the skinny on the filter. The Purolator is for the 1980, the correct part for the 81-82 is the Mahle KL7. I found one on ebay for $9.00. The KL8 is similar, but NLA.
The Mahle KL7 is part number 931 110 149 01.

Just to let the late 931 owner's know. The correct part is a Purolator. I found it on Ebay. It is listed as the part for the 924 Carrera GT. The late, late 931's use this filter because it has two female connections.
I will update this thread with the part number later.
The filters on 924.org don't fit the last of the 931's. Because the filters have the fittings loctited, it's best to find this filter original.
My car ran a little better.

I have had to change the fittings on my 931 and previously on my 80 NA even with the so called "correct" filter. Instead of Loctite a nonhardening gasket cement was used and caused no problems if the correct tools were used to remove them.
