951 a/c compressor clutch
1986 951 Turbo with 32.5K miles. A/C compressor (Nippondenso 11E ?) clutch is bad. Still have R12 in the system. Need a new or rebuilt clutch. Any one have a source for this? I have had no luck finding one. I have access to R12 refrigerant so would like to get system working without going through the hassle of converting to 134A. Any help appreciated. Thanks, Bob

Bob,
Is the system full on R12 refrigerant, or is it low?
If it's full you may need to have the R12 recovered, pull the compressor, re-install, and refill with the recovered R12.
If it's not, you can pull the compressor (don't think you can get the clutch off with the compressor in the car) and swap out the clutch, Downside is you will have to evacuate the system in order to refill.
The short of it is if you're going to go this far you may as well convert to R134a. It works fine in the 944 and will give you very cold air (when you do it right) as you could get with R12 and recharging the system is easy.

Thanks for the reply Paul. System is full, just need the magnetic clutch. It unbolting from the front of the compressor without disturbing charge. Easy peasy if I could get the right clutch. Not going through the hassle of converting to 134A.
