924 016/Y VA 016/Z VB first gear synchro, 1/2/3 gear dog
I’ve just had a small run of first gear synchros and first/second/third gear dog rings made, at the request of a customer, for 924 type 016/Y code VA and 016/Z code VB transmissions. Porsche’s part number for the synchro was 931-302-301-02 (93130230102), and it has been unavailable for many years. The synchro ring has a unique chamfered profile that lets it sit into a channel in the gear without a retaining circlip. We’ve made the synchro with proper molybdenum coating to its friction surface, and a manganese phosphate coating of the rest of its surface to prevent galling of the ring against the gear.

Both parts have been made for us by a well-known supplier of transmission parts for Porsches and other European vehicles. http://www.connact.com/~kgross/asset...-241-00asm.jpg Because the dog ring is not retained with a circlip (as it is for example in a 911 or 931 G31.01 transmission), it lacks a groove that can be used to pull the old one off the gear: it has to be cut off. I’m happy to offer removal and installation of the dog ring as a service. I can also provide instructions, but caution that it can be a bit of a challenge. Contact me for pricing. I’ll cross-post this to the 924 forums I’m aware of, and please feel free to pass it along. This is not a profitable venture for me, but I am pleased to help keep everyone’s 924s on the road! |
