What type of paint was zermatt silver in 87?

I am returning my car to its original factory colour, we'll pretty much doing a concourse restoration at this point. Anyhow, the original colour is Zermatt Metallic Silver and need to know exactly what type of paint and process was used for an 87. Was it, base/clearcut? Enamel? Lacquer? Looking at the places where the original paint is still visible, like engine bay and door sills, it appears that it's not a base/clearcoat type but I could be wrong. I don't want to go through all this work just to find out that I used the wrong type of paint and /or process otherwise I would just leave in the Guards Red that they changed it to because to be quite honest the Guards Red makes the car look way sportier IMO, but I am a purist and since the car is pretty much disassembled I figure make it all original. TIA

The metal flake colors were all base plus clearcoat. The solid cars were base color only, unless I am mistaken.
