Question 1981 924 Turbo 931 Barn find - thoughts?

1981 924 Turbo 931 went to see the car today..
new tires, (2) new fuel pumps - fuel filter, new battery, flushed the fuel tank of sediment, Turbo rebuilt, cold check valve replaced...
car runs, but has trouble keeping an idle...

Thoughts or opinions welcome, don't have alot of experience with these cars but in 1981 only 3312 of these were built and of that 1529 were imported into the USA...I've never seen one.

Fantastic find, i'd buy it quick. Prices for the 931 have been climbing quick.

What? 13? LOL..i doubt that...but hey...who knows...if I had the money i'd stock up on 931s as they are still really cheap compared to the 951s...and the fun level is about the same in both...931s are gritty compared to the 951 and that's perfect for who likes that.

I knew Magnus has a good condition 931 and a 937.
Some parts for these cars are hard to find and expensive...they already are rare cars as most of them got neglected, parted or scrapped.
I wonder how many 931s are still registered and on the road in USA.
I own the only one in Romania, in UK there are tens of them but no more than 30 if I'm not mistaken.
Germany has most of them I guess...but I have no number.

By the way, a 924 turbo GT usually sells for around €60k, some very rare 924 turbo GTS sold for €200-€250k if i'm not mistaken.

I do plan on selling this car....any thoughts on keeping it all original or partial restoration before selling ?

Would I be helping or hurting the value of the car by NOT keeping it original ?....because if it was up to me I'd have this car painted black, install a new front end kit & a complete set of Fuch rims.

I owned one. Super fun car.

Not sure I'd tackle one not fully restored but they are fun cars to drive when new.

That was a long time ago I must admit.

Good luck. Could be a fun project.

The interior is actually in good condition
ODO reads 63,958 original miles

Fun cars to drive indeed, I have one with some wear but was well kept and its still fantastic to drive.
But mine is the European version so all you US guys with the cheap gas are missing out quite a lot when it comes to 924s.

Originality counts for the people who care about it(and those are the only people who will pay serious money for your 924)...but that nose panel has to be restored...you cant expect damaged paint to be valued more than restored.
That being said my advice is to do the minimum required restorations and NOT go all in.
So if I were you I would just repaint the nose panel, front bumper and the headlight covers...give the rest a buff and be done with the paint job restoration.
Do pay for a professional color matching and paint job though, anything less than factory quality will lower the value of course.

That's great interior, very 928 like. Make an effort to fit the carpet under the door sill and look for fixable details like these before putting it up for sale.

Fuchs look good on a 931 but you have to lower it.
To be honest the factory wheels are the best for the standard ride height and tires.
I would just leave it as it is as it looks good and original...and if anybody is to pay good money for your 931 its only going to be because its in good condition and all original.


Try to get a set of correct mats, these were optional when the cars were new as far as I know.
Get the correct plug leads don't leave the el cheapo blue ones there, paint the air filter box black and replace the turn signal on the passenger front corner.

This car is for sale at $49000 and I think it will sell close to that.

Two things you are missing, the bolt to hold the upper charge tube in place, and an outer black round 'seal' or o-ring between that tube and the throttle body. The inner orange o-ring does most of the sealing. Most likely you have a major vacuum leak.

where did you go for parts that were no longer available..my perfect little car needs a crank sensor and Oklahoma has no porsche salvaged..any help..any state..would be super..
