Default Problem with L-Jet :(

Ok guys, yet another question.

Engine: 74 1.8 L
Chasis: 1971

Problem:

1) When I give the engine load it misses, bucks, et cetera

2) I am thinking timing problem due to static timing, vacuum, vaccum advance . . .

3) How do I know if my impeller is the right one. I have doubts that I actually have the right one for timing purposes!!!!!

4) When I corner hard gas sloshes out from the gas cap, is this normal?? It seems as though it is not tight enough, but it is. Is there a revised cap that will fit the older tanks???

Thanks guys,

Mike

Murph, L-jet is extremely sensative to vaccum leaks. Check all hoses and the oil cap. A loose or leaking oil cap will casue all sorts of trouble.

I'll check my manuals tonight for the 1.8L timing marks, i believe the 1.8L only has 2 marks, 1.7 and 2.0l have 3 marks.

As for the fuel leaking, the gas cap is worn out. I had to get a new one to fix mine.

Call Perry Keihl at the 914 Network, 800-867-4712, tell him I sent you.

Hi Mike

Your can find some tips on timing and a template to replace timing marks on your impeller here on the Pelican site.

My first 914 leaked gas when cornering, it turned out to be the gasket between the filler neck and the tank.

How good/bad does your 914 run? If you can make it out to my place we could spend a day troubleshooting/ fixing things.
