Rich, the price ranges you speak of do exist. Putting the six conversion together yourself will guarantee that it is built right and save you $145.00/ hour in labor !
Even the type4 f.i. engine has decent re-sale value as well.
Hollywood Tacos +Cars always brings L.A.s hottest 914s !

Welcome to the 914 insanity!
We had a 993 for nearly 10 years...and 130k miles! Bought a 95 with 70k on it, then sold it when it ticked over 200k...absolutely loved that car. We said there was only 1 car that would replace it...yeah, the yellow one in my avatar!
<-----
Me personally? I would HIGHLY recommend a 6 conversion, and to me one of the best is a 3.2 engine. Fairly easy conversion compared to a 3.6 and plenty of power for the little car. Our car - Huey is a absolute blast to drive with his 3.2 engine. Reliable, bullet proof, easy.
Again, welcome!! And good luck with your search!

Welcome to the 914 group- from someone who's had two 993's and loved them both. My son just sold his 993 to buy a race car but will be buying one again in a couple years I'm sure...
Saw this nicely modded a week ago at a cars and coffee at the Penske Musuem in north Scottsdale. Had metal flares and a 3.4... be careful to dry the drool from your keyboard...
