Question Info on buying a 914 for a newbie

HI All,
I am looking around for a fun project car that I can take to the odd track day.
One of the cars on my list is the 914 or 914/6.
I would interested in hearing what these cars are like to live with on a daily basis and would be grateful for any advise on what to watch out for when buying one.
Also any suggestions on good books on the 914 or 914/6 that I could read before I jump in?

Thanks in advance.

Congrats on choosing a 914 as a project car. Rust is the most common problem to try to avoid. Rust in the battery area which "spills" down to the lower trailing arm attachment point. Also the jack points "doughnuts" rust out...but that rust is also usually do to battery acid.
Good luck..

Also, the 914 is not galvanized so if your area uses road salt in the winter you basically cannot drive in the winter or you will be able to watch your car melt away in a couple years. Even with new seals the 914 is not the most weathertight, the ventillation stinks (both literally and figuratively) unless you have the windows down and/or the top off, and the heater is a joke as it provide lukewarmth at best.

Of course, the 914 is also my favourite driving car bar none.
