need information on 914
hi I have a 944 S2 cab and I am not very familiar with 914s. My son likes old bugs but I think a 914 would be a better choice. Is there a link to a site that would give me information on the following
price for 1.7, 1.8, 2.0
what parts are hard to find
what do I need to make sure it works
I know about a few common rust places ie battery, floor pans
is there a location that if the car is rusted there I should pass.
there is a914 that looks in good shape they want $3500 and it all seams to be there. It has been on the market since last fall so I was thinking they want to much or it may have issues that can't be seen in picks.
thanks for help

If it's lived in Iowa the rust is probably not good- take off the outer rocker if you can to see the inner rockers and hell hole better. Look for bubbles on sail panels, front fenders near door gap, bottom of doors, around pedal cluster and throttle where it bolts to floor as there is usually a lot of moisture trapped there...
Go to pelican parts forums and 914 world and you'll spend a whole weekend "reading"...
Good luck...

sorry it was 94000 miles. the car is still availible. (1973) it had a long time owner and paers to be in stock condition with a 1.7 liter engine still with the fuel injection still intact. they were asking 3500 and have raised the price to 3950. The dealer does not have any records. if they had I would be vary tempted since the car seams to be rust free. I would have to do a better inspection of all prone areas.
can you guys tell me if a 1973, 914 1.7 liter without records is worth $3500?
Is it hard to chang the clutch? it is the most concerning since my son would learn to drive a clutch on the car.
thanks

for a 1.7 it would have to be pretty damned rust free but you'd have to take off the rockers and get it up on a lift and REALLY inspect the hell hole area to get a good idea. Also take out the carpets and check out the pedal area and around the master cylinder etc.
Relatively speaking replacing the clutch isn't too bad- lowering the engine transaxle is reasonably quick if you've done it before, but once you're in there you want to start replacing other stuff, like throw out bearing, cables, etc etc etc, starter etc etc etc

thanks for the information. I am not sure they would let pull up carpets and all. if it continues to sit on the lot perhaps they will be willing to come down to allow all the while I'm in there expence I am not looking for a third money pit.
