Default 914 Beer Cooler

I ran across this image from my misspent 'ute and thought you guys would enjoy it. The occasion was a K.C. Region Porsche Club rally and I was in charge of transporting the beer. There was about 100# of ice and around six case of beer in there. Tire was in the "other trunk."

That car was the second 914 sold in Kansas City which I had until getting the 914-6 18 months later.

Great way to test the structural integrity. Of course that much water close to a 914 probably led to rust later that afternoon.
Cool pic.

Oh yeah. Remember the car was only around six months old at this point in time.

I have no idea of the whereabouts of either the car or the girl. I'd be pretty sure the car is long gone considering the K.C. salt and all. As for her, who knows.

You know, all things considered, I don't know why it wasn't Coors, except that Bud seemed to be the in thing then.

Funny about Coors; when we moved to TN in '73 and Coors wasn't available east of the MS people would practically kill for it and it was a definite black-marketeable commodity. After it became available not so much.

Glad you guys are enjoying the picture though; brought back a lot of memories to me!

When I was in college and med school in the late 60's and early 70's, people would drive from Iowa to Colorado just to stuff as much Coors as they could into their cars and bring it back. Liquid gold so to speak. A real status symbol to be holding a can of Coors. After a friend and I delivered some young guy's kid when in OB rotation, he brought us both a six pack of Coors the next day in a brown paper bag to thank us! Didn't realize we didn't do much, the kid made it on his own, but we didn't mind!
Ah, the good old days!!

Oh yeah. A funny thing I remember about Coors was in the early 70's when I was taking flying lessons seeing a corporate jet taxi into one of the CHA FBO's. After all the VIPs had departed the pilot backed his car up to the stairs and proceeded to fill the trunk with cases of Coors he had stashed aboard the AC. Maybe it was all for personal consumption, maybe not.

Coors was definitely hot stuff east of the MS in those days.

Thanks for all the appreciation on the pix; I didn't know I was creating an "epic" at the time. Probably taken with a Leica IIIa, that's about all I can tell you from the time.

If we're in to old pix, here's one from my first Parade at Lake Geneva in '72. My dad spoke fluent German so he had a nice conversation with this man from the old country, while a certain 20 something kid in the background had trouble not drooling...

That's pretty neat. From a slide I'm guessing?

Yep- got a bunch of old slides (taken with my Dad's 35mm Zeiss-Icon I think) that have been sitting around for 40 some years. Have some great ones from various Daytona 24's from the '70's and the original IROC with Donohue, Revson, Pearson, etc in the Carreras!

What are you scanning with? The reason I ask is that a friend of mine has a Nikon Coolscan 5000 V (I think that's what it is) that does absolutely fantastic things with old slides. It can almost magically bring back color from faded ones, clear out haze, you wouldn't believe it. No longer in production, brings a premium still on eBay.
