I spent some time talking with the owner on Friday. She said it is yellow and it has been parked since '89, not '80. It has never been in the snow and the only reason it was parked was because a front shock was blown out on it. Hoping to see it next week either Thursday or Friday and I will take pictures.

It's Friday. Any update? I've always wanted a rust-free 914 but they always cost too much. If the high price or lack of garage space makes you back out of this, PM me and we'll keep it in the region. Realistically though, parked in 1989 still could mean plenty of rust.

Sadly, no update. I don't want to be a pain in the @$$, so I am trying to process cautiously. I will see her tomorrow at work and ask again.

I was like that with a deal a while ago. I didn't want to push on someone that I knew about a car they had ('72S!!). While I was 'waiting' and not being pushy, someone else found out about it and came in and bought it for much less than i would have paid.
Actually just happened last week with a '71E all original everything. I was being easy with the guy because he was not sure he was ready to sell, and I am the PCA Zone Rep down here, so I didn't want to sound pushy in my position. I let him think about it for a day. The next day, I get an email saying he sold it to another PCA guy that's local to him! I REALLY wanted this car. and he practically gave it away....
Go...be a pain in the a$$...or you may lose it.

I would show up with cash and offer to haul it out of the garage, clean the garage up for her and tow it home where it will begin to be returned to its former glory and see the light of day again.
Took me 9 months of working on the former owner of my six to get him to sell it to me. Kept in touch by phone and a letter every so often (the kind you write in pen, on paper, put in an envelope with a stamp on it and put in your mail box to be delivered to him). Finally, he said why don't you come over so we can talk. I went with a thick envelope full of $100 bills and my AAA card. I left without that envelope and the car on a flatbed. I have never regretted my decision.

Jay,
I have to agree, you need to hand her cash asap. I lost out on an original 1969 396 Camaro for $3000 once. If it something you want, go get it.
Then post us some pics...

Hmmm... Dust a 240Z? In corners for sure stock for stock but the Z had 50hp on the 914. There are seldom wide open autocross courses where I wish I had my Z but I almost never wish for my 914 at a track day. They handle very differently. The Z can be tossed around with its power while the 914 is a momentum car that rewards smooth drivers. I love them both but one doesn't ever 'dust' the other all the time. Each is the right weapon on a different day and a different situation.
I love both my Z and my 914... My 911 too for that matter but that is another subject.

Nice looking Z- great car in it's day but the later ones were a real piece unfortunately. I'd love one of the early ones but finding one of those in decent shape is as hard as finding a good 914! I'm old enough to remembe them as Datsuns!

My Dad just sold his '71 240Z that he bought new a few years ago. It was a sad day, but he sold it and bought a Porsche, so I guess it worked out.

I say "just", but it was more like 3 years ago. I will dig for the Z pictures. It was a pretty car, BRG with tan interior. Not the typical orange or brown you see a lot.
