Default 914 article in Panorama

That's a nice 914 article in this month's Panorama magazine! I didn't realize that the 914's wheelbase is longer than a 997's!

I think it may be the longest production wheelbase. I know it's longer than 993s and earlier 911s.

Skimmed the Pano only so far. Considering these cars started to be built in '69, I thought the article was about 1 year too late.. who celebrates a 41st birthday and NOT the 40th

It's a nice tale, in general. It's about time more positive things were said about these great cars. I suspect many Porsche fans got their introduction to Porsche via the 914. I certainly did. Been addicted ever since.

It was a nicely done by Alan. He is a really smart guy who knows a TON about 914's. Here is my question, in the Pano article it says my '73 1.7 has 80 HP, but in the PCA tech book it says my car has 76 HP. Which is it? I have on my NH plate "76 HP" so people know I am slow. What is the deal?

Could be a DIN vs SAE net issues, especially if neither scale is noted in the rating. I am pretty sure the "DIN" rating was 80 for the 1.7

While 4 hp is a significant percentage difference, either way, you still have "no hp"

Enjoyed the article. My first P-car was a '74 2.0 "bumble bee." Really enjoyable car, except for the vapor lock problem. Definitely pining for another 914. These cars were ahead of their time, and even today have a modern driving feel to them. I think they've aged well in looks, too.

My 1973 914 1.7 was a California model with 69 hp. Hard to believe what you could do with merely 69 hp! And it got up to 520 miles on a tank of gas one time (34 mpg) with a refill of 15.4 gallons (one gallon still sloshing around inside).

My good friend still has her 914/6 that she and her husband bought new. It is probably the best original 914-6 out there. I can't even imagine what it would go for!
