Exhaust poll: twin tail pipes or single
I'm looking at Bursch aftermarket mufflers and wanted to know what people thought about the "dual tip" vs the "single tip".
This will be for a car with Weber carbs - does once style yield more power? Is one quieter than the other?

I've run 'em all, too.
More low-end torque w/single, more high-end with cookie-cutter tips, etc.
The four pipe is kind-of nice (power-wise) and makes a different sound...almost like you can hear the valve overlap.
The single tip, if I remember correctly, is actually a bit louder and hums more.
I've been happily running a stock (2.0) muffler that I had jet-coated lately.

The 914 is still going to sound like a sewing machine no matter how many exhaust tips you have. I've had two 356's and they sounded like a Porsche and my SC,s sound is sweeeet. Don't get me wrong because I love my 914. In some ways its more fun to drive than my SC so the amount of tips is more for looks in my opinion. By the way I have a cheese after market muffler on my 73 914 and it sounds quite sporty (for a sewing machine

I reckon you have to abandon the rear skirt if you go for the four pipe. Thia has a bigger impact onthe looks than the number of pipes.
Power-wise, I have found the multiple outlet versions mean more noise and less power. I know it is wrong to generalise but...so it seems to be.
