Speedo and Tach Problems
I have a 76 2.0l that has been parked since 92. I believe these problems were present when it was parked 10 years ago, but I now want to drive the car again. I need help in finding out what the problem is with both my speedo and tach which aren't functioning. The speedo never works, but the tach will work sometimes, and other times not. Where should I start trouble shooting these items, I don't want to have the gauges themselves rebuilt only to find out that they are not the problem. If someone familiar with the instruments let me know any testing procedures for the senders and any common points of failure it would be a great help.

Well for the Speedo just unhook the cable and have a friend ride with you . Have him/her look at the cable drive to see if it spinning.
Spinning good, take speedo out and disassemble (see pelican parts tech article). Tach gets input from ignition. Chase wires and look at grounds. (sorry haven't broke that TACH yet).
