Got stuff fixed :)
Hello hello,
Today I decided it is time to get some better lighting in my instrument panel. So I took it apart. Somehow I ended up taking apart the odometer and I found what was wrong with it. So now the miles are climbing again.
The lighting project didn't exactly work out as planned. I was going to replace it with LED lights. But once I got it all hooked up it was darker than before? I don't know it said "super bright" on the package. But now I guess I will try out other ones.
Good night to you all <img src="graemlins/xyxwave.gif" border="0" alt="[bigbye]" /> <img src="graemlins/drink.gif" border="0" alt="[cherrsagai]" />

The main problem that you'll run into using LED's is the fact that they have a fairly narrow beam pattern. The stock bulbs send light out in all directions, whereas an LED shoots out 99% of it's light out the front. You could build an array of LED's in a ring inside the guage housing with the LED's all facing forward. That might do the trick. It's just probably more trouble than it's worth. Neat idea though...
Years ago, I got tired of barely being able to see my 914 guages at night. I went so far as to remove some of the "lip" around the perimeter of each guage face to allow more light to wrap around. This combined with painting the inside of the guage housing a bright white did help.
Seems to me that the retrofit of some small halogen bulbs would give the best results. Maybe that would be worth looking into.
Glad to hear that you got your odometer fixed anyway. I recently had to perform a similar surgery on my 911 odo. The reset button would not fully reset the trip odometer, and I'd wind up with all my numerals reading in "halves". Turned out to be a slightly bent piece of plastic that was easily reformed.
