Unhappy Suspension Console Replacement

I have a '73 914 with a broken trailing arm mount on the right rear. Anyone have experience with repairing this? I've seen a lot of suspension console repair parts, but don't know what I would be getting into if I fix it myself. Do I have to cut out the old section?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Wyoung,I have repaired mine on the right side also, rust was the culprit.Mine was the inboard support,I just cut away the rust and welded new metal in.I made a 1" diameter tube to replace the control arm to hold everything in place and went to work.......Good luck...Steve
