Any suggestions?

for driving 195/65x15 with a vr rating, call the tire rack Denny at ext 321 for the latest brand recommendation. For showing and occasional driving 165x15 Michelin. Coker tire sells them

Coker also has the vintage pirellis in 185/70 I believe as well as Vredestein (sp) in 165's. Cool there are some new options for us now!

I really do not like those Vredestein tires, seems like the side wall flexes too much and makes the car ride a bit like it is on jello. PLUS for us concours guys the tread pattern and big letters on the side does not give the car the true vintage look. Tires are inexpensive though as compared to Michelins

195/65 will not drive as well. you are better off with a proper period tyre. 165hr15 xas or pirell cn36 is what Porsche themselves homologated as their suggested tyre. Porsche also homologate 185/70r15 cinturato cn36 but a 195/65 will not be as nice to drive on unless you change the camber and stiffen the suspension and basically make it more of a race car, and of course less pleasant on the road

185/70/15 CN36 or Avon

185/70-15 CN 36's- agree with mooty.

I agree, make the drive more like a race car, The wider the tire on a 914 the worse it drives for road use. 165x15 michelin or 185/70x15 are the two vintage tire recommendations by Porsche

Well Mooty and i have driven both a bit. I feel pretty similar. Maybe Avon has a little more grip.

but i just can’t get enough of the look of the cn36. Love them.

Nasher 10-21-2019 08:39 AM

the cn36 is quite a bit lighter. but i would also expect it to be more progressive.

without doubt the CN36 looks ace and the Avon is a new road race minimal tread pattern
