Any AC solutions for an original 914?
 

My nephew is considering one, but living in California's San Joaquin Valley means AC is a requirement. Anything available?

there are some very nice kits for aftermarket 914 ac that use r 134,. Yes. However if you have a nice 914 do not do it as it requires cutting way too many holes in the car and it will destroy the value. If a mediocre car then so what, will take about two days to do a decent installation, cost of the kit is about 2000 dollars, just like the original it is an under dash unit but now with a radial compressor

Also by the time you buy and install the ac in a 914 you have almost spent enough money to buy a Porsche Boxster!

DON'T put AC in a 914 period... either just don't get one or drive it on cooler days or at night. It tears up the car and won't work that well anyway. Also, you really want to "starve" a type IV engine, or make it overheat??? I've got 2 914's in Scottsdale- I just don't drive them in the really hot times...

I think classic retrofit may eventually make one of their electro-cooler kits for the 914 - see www.classicretrofit.com

we just got finished installing air in two 914s and the classic air kit leaves much to be desired. Inferior parts, not a complete kit, certainly not for the home hobbyist AND these two cars had already been cut for air years ago

I have a nice little solar powered fan that clips to my 914 visor support, when I get up over 100 in Phoenix....

My 74 2.0 had dealer installed AC at the time of purchase and to this day it works great! It is a must while driving in Los Angeles during summer, and according to Hagerty it adds 10% to the cars value.

I totally agree, works great, and adds value. However if one these days has a nice 914, to cut it for air conditioning would be a tragedy.

I have a '74 a/c roller going to rust in the back yard......cheap.
