Thank you dr914. I currently have an Optima battery in my 914 needing replacement. But my current battery model is not available from Optima any longer. Die hard sounds like a good bet since 914's are a group 42 battery.

If I remember correctly Sears no longer makes the series 42 Diehard. I checked about a year ago

and I forgot the Bosch, (stupidly) that is the one we install at our shop, as the importer has them on the shelf and sends them over to us

I suggest Odyssey. They are AGM and have good power, excellent reliability, and come in a more conventional sizing for our battery trays than the Optima offerings.

I just installed the Odyssey using the kit from Patrick Motor Sports. Very happy with the quality of the hardware and battery.

I'm running an Optima red top in mine. Car is always on a Battery Tender when parked and thinking about this, it has been in there since November 2005, yes 2005, not 2015. Still works fine, which is surprising ,but the car is a limited use vehicle. I'm using a high torque starter in the car too.

Very clean install. Have you considered a thin rubber mat for under the battery?

yes it is a very clean installation, a battery mat and cover just to keep water off the tray is always a good idea
