WTB 914 Early NOS Nose Panel
Hello Everyone:
NO LONGER NEEDED- I HAVE THE PANEL I NEEDED. I am in desperate need of an early (70-72) NOS front nose panel. That's the panel behind the bumper.
We are doing a full rotisserie, bare-metal restoration on my '71 914-6 and need this panel to repair some damage.
Please look in your parts stashes and reach out to me if you happen to have one collecting dust. I can be reached at Cairo94507 at Yahoo dot com.
Cheers - Michael

Thanks for the reply Dr914. However, IMHO, $850 for a used panel is not reasonable. Especially when we have all seen the way these panels are removed and the damage and rust they contain. Used panels should be around $150 to $200. I have reached out to RD but not heard back from them yet as to when their panel will be available. They just got back to me, no relief in sight from RD unfortunately. So I continue to hunt for a panel. Hopefully in the future RD will have this panel available to help out other builds. We all know their work is exceptional. Cheers.

for a 100 thousand dollar 914-6 and the fact that Spencer at Parts Heaven cuts them out nicely, I think that it is a bargain. You cannot install anything BUT a 70 71 or 72 as the later ones are different. Does the complete panel need to be replaced or can you splice a piece in? We had to fix the 71 m471 of ours several years ago because someone had spliced in a piece of a new panel, and of course what was available then was the porsche supersession. Did not match the other side. We found a piece of an early one and made a perfect repair.
There is NO WAY that anyone would sell a front panel for one of these early cars for 150 200!! Just the cutting alone is several hours. They are very nice at Parts Heaven and you will get a good panel

OK - That is true about Parts Heaven - they are terrific folks. However we can call the search off I am now in possession of the panel I need. I will be posting pics in my thread on 914World.com. Thanks for the suggestions and help. Cheers, Michael

Hi Doc - I ended yup buying the '73-'74 NOS panel. Kent will have to modify it using my recently (badly) installed early ('70-'72) panel to make it 100% correct. That was the best we could do without putting my car back on ice for years to try to find an early NOS panel. It sat long enough with no real work and that is not happening again. Thanks, Michael

yes those 73 74 front panels are somewhat different than the 70-72 panels most notably inside at each headlight bucket. The factory modified the stamping to accommodate the area where the bumper guards would crush in the case of an accident. So I guess that you had to weld in that area from your old panel. Certainly a lot of work, but with a 914 as valuable as yours, no other choice. Of course if you get a chance some pics of the work would inspire others.

We have documented with photos everything on my Six. Of course this work will be not different. At present it is on a frame fixture and the front nose has been removed and the front is being repaired to accept the new nose. We want everything measuring to factory specs before any welding takes place.
I really need to put together a photo spread from day one, all in one spot, that I can post here. On 914World.com my thread is now in Part 2 and covers everything on my Six.
