Default Restoring 1964 Karmann Ghia

Will a 914/6 engine work?

TIA,
Zach

Best place to ask that is probably "the samba" forums... all you'll get is crickets here...

Someone on 914 World would probably know as well. That's the most active 914 forum I've found.

You can make an aircooled flat 6 fit, but you have to cut the engine bay sheetmetal to do it. Since all Porsche aircooled flat 6 engines are roughly the same external size, you can use almost any 911 engine, not just a 914/6 engine.

Yes a Porsche six will fit. Google Bader Racing Ghia and you can see a 3.8L air cooled engine and transmission in a Ghia. Quite a few people are putting Subaru 4s and 6s into Ghia also. I got bored and am presently putting an STi engine with a GT3 transmission in my 79 Super Beetle. Do what makes you happy...

I guess I should have figured that given the number of STi powered 914s, but never thought that far into it.

I'm having twisted thoughts as I look at my FRS in the garage now...
