912E
I have owned a 912E since 1989. I love the car and have put too much money into the car to even rationalize. The first upgrade was sending the engine out to Boston, Mass to have the engine rebuilt by a guy name Alan Bishop. I had 40 IDF weber carbs replace the fuel injection, which help the engine produce around 135 horsepower. The bad news is the car has been sitting outside for the last ten years and needs major work. Luckily, the engine was taken out and stored in a friend's garage. I have been avoiding this car like the plague because it is easier to forget than deal with it. Just wondering what everyone thinks it would take to get a thing like this running? Would I be better off parting out? The forums impute would be much appreciated, thanks.

Drifting
I bought a '76 912E back in 1982. Had my fun with it and put it in different garages. Lost interest in it so I sold it. The buyer's check bounced, he promised to pay me 'next week'. I repo'd it. For a while it was like a new toy. Got it running and polished up. Kept up on the 'little' stuff. THEN, youngest daughter got pregnant/married after her junior year at the University. I told her I would give her the 912 IF she graduated. She did/I did. (no small feat as she was at a new university, in a new marriage with a newborn baby.)
It is very cool that this Pcar is now my legacy and won't ever be sold. Also a little dissappointing that is worth almost as much as my 996!
