The Porsche 912E
Just read a quick article on this site - the title was about Porsche "mistakes" or something to that effect. One of the Porsches in this group was the Porsche 912E. I have owned my 912E for about 20 years now - sunny day driver - love it! I have done a couple of minor mechanical upgrades to enhance performance. I love my E and it is plenty quick for me. I have attached a pic of me arriving at Cars & Coffee in Cincinnati a few months back.

Rod_Ez,
I have had my E for 20 years now. i have driven friends' 911s, 912s, 914s and 356s over the years and, in my opinion the 912E is the best of all worlds. I was looking specifically for a 912E 20 years ago. I wanted the flat 4 air cooled motor, the classic look of a 911S and the E fit the bill for me. I have only done two performance upgrades on my E - Stebro stainless steel muffler and a Mallory Unilite Optical distributor. Purchased both these from Jake Raby/Aircooled Technology about 11 years ago. Both upgrades made a definite difference - the motor sparks better and the exhaust system breathes more efficiently. Like I said, I have driven a number of friends' Porsches over the years - most of them quick and a blast to drive. But the E suits me just fine. The amazing thing is, these E's are now 40+ years old. Everything still works on my E - a testament to the high quality German build from way back. Best of luck getting your E finished and back on the road!

Hey Tony,
This is actually my first Porsche. I lucked upon it and I couldn't pass it up and I'm glad I didn't. I'm having a blast rebuilding it. However, I'm finding that it is quite costly. LOL. I am getting my engine rebuild kit from Type4store. I am going with the 2270/175hp with dual Webers. I have no desire to keep it stock. I know I know, but to each his own. This thing will be in the family forever so I don't care too much about resale value. My car is #865.

Hello. Just saw this and wondering what kind of rebuild you did to get up to that HP? Thanks so much!

Three Wheelin'
I watched a couple of videos of 912e's and I'm surprised how good they all seem to sound. I used to have a 1969 912, and a couple of 914's, and I loved them in general but the VW bug-ish sound always bothered me (a lot actually). I expected the same sound on the 912e, but as a I watch videos of 912e's, they all seem to sound great. Is there something fundamentally different about the 912e engine that makes them sound better?

Finally got some color on my E. I'm actually spraying the body today. I went with the Glasurit 55 Series and their 923-460 clear. Next step is to color sand it with 1000 grit, 1200 grit, 2000 grit and then a couple more coats of clear.

Porche 912E exhaust box
Hi guys,
I’ve had my 912E for about 5 years. She runs amazingly still, but now needs a replacement exhaust box. Could anyone tell me whether the exhaust (in pic below) is an original 912E or a different one I need to be replacing like for like?
In hope!
Tim
Does anyone know whether this is an original 912e exhaust box? Or an alternative?
