Default California Salvage Title

Hi Guy's ,
Hoping to get some input from the collective.
I am being offered ( at a good price) a 1969 912 Sunroof 4 speed that has
a California Salvaged Title.
12 years ago the car was hit on the drivers side front fender and door.
The Claims department at 21st Century Insurance decided to total the
Car because the repair (9K) was more then they perceived the value of the Car.
The owner was paid 10K and then offered the Car for 0 dollars.
He then had the Door, Fender replaced and everything that was needed was
repaired by a professional shop. He decided to have the car painted a 1998 Boxster
color. The car was aligned and the car has been driven 20K miles since.
The Car has recently had the original motor rebuilt and everything runs and drives
well. If I purchase the car I plan on having the Car repainted a 1969 color and anything needed will be repaired.
I understand that Totaling a car was a pretty common occurrence when the repair was more the the cars value.
How much will this effect the value of the car if I decide to sell later on.
Also I have a friend in Germany that I may ship the Car to so we both have a Car to drive when we visit. Will they allow the Car into the country with a Salvage Title
even though it has been thoroughly sorted (Written Proof).
I don't want to get too upside down. Thanks in advance for any input and thoughts.

In general the older the car the more the condition trumps history. At 40+ years some states don't even issue titles. Also this is not a 1972 911S with the potential value of $200k+ so the upside on your car is fairly limited. The more documentation you have the better. Since you're not registering the car in Germany, there should be no issue as you will be limited to the duration the car can stay in Europe. Title, current registration and insurance should do it.

If you are planning to export the car from California directly to Germany you will need to file a Reg 32 (certificate of export) with the California DMV. On that certificate form it says that salvage title vehicles are not acceptable for export and they will not provide you with a certificate.
