Sway bar question
I have an 83' 930 and use it mainly for street. Though one of the minor suspension upgrades I did was change the sway bars to the 86-89' ones. This was cheap and of course a little better than what I had. Then I just went on a canyon run and would like to know how much better would the 22mm adj. bars be vs. what I have now? I know Smart Racing has the big sways but I don't track the car even if I happen to just for fun. Then what about the rear stock sway bar mount. Will it hold up or do you have to upgrade that when you go to bigger sways?
Thanks,
Brent

Hi Brent:
Great question,....
Installing adjustable swaybars does several things for you:
1) Reduces lateral weight transfer; (body lean)
2) Permits you to adjust your car's understeer/oversteer balance to your skills and preferences
3) Permits you to dial out the swaybar's preload that compromises a corner-weight job,.... This is something that requires adjustable droplinks and you cannot do this with any stock (77-89) front bar.
Aside from the hit on the wallet, there are no drawbacks and you'll really feel the difference.
SRP offers two bar sizes that you could use on your 930; 20mm & 23mm. If you do any track events, I'd get the 23's; front & rear.
I would also recommend that you reinforce your stock rear swaybar mounts BEFORE they tear away. Its far cheaper to deal with this proactively.

I'd agree with Steve regarding the sway bar reinforcement. The bar will rip the mount in a short period of time. Smart Racing has a kit for $40 each side and is better than others I've seen.
Additionally, SRP sway bars come in four overlapping sizes - 20, 23, 27, 31.

The thing about the SRP bars is that they are FAR superior in quality and use ALL metric nuts and bolts compared to other brands. They are slightly more expensive, but worth every penny. Also, if you want to upgrade from say a 27mm bar to a 31mm, you only buy the bar at $125 or so compared with other mfgs that require to buy a whole new bar kit.

Hi Brent:
You get what you pay for and swaybars are not the place to pinch pennies, IMHO.
The reinforced swaybar mounts need to be welded in place.

Thanks Steve, I guess the 23mm will be the best ones to start with for me. Since the season is coming to an end and money is tight, I will have to manage until next spring.
