Default Thoughts on this car....tax return burning a hole in my pocket!

Currently own a 2014 4S cabriolet which I love, but my wife is driving more and more. So I started looking around for a second car, and ran across this:

http://www.palmdesertauto.com/vehicl...CHE-930-TURBO/

Had a brief chat with the dealer, and the car has a "story", Euro spec, the engine is not original, the claim is that it comes from a later model (maybe a 964, can't remeber), the switch was made a reputable shop, 45k in receipts, etc. The car is also repainted, not concourse quality.

Question: Thoughts?

I'm not a collector, I like driving 'em, and I happen to LOVE the exterior and interior colors. Not 100% sold on how much it's been lowered but I guess that's what people do?

Would love to hear what people think.

Appears to be a relatively clean...'84 911 Carrera. Unfortunately, this is not a factory 930.

If you're looking for a fun driver, this could be it. You're essentially purchasing a [repainted] 911 Carrera, with non-OE fenders [no M491 option], some suspension modifications, and a 3.4L [?] turbocharged engine.

If the engine was rebuilt with 3.4L Ps&Cs, there's at least $30k in the motor [I saw they said $45k], not including headers, exhaust, turbo, or intercooler. Would need to see some reputable paperwork on this. That clean, original-looking, [cork?] interior [minus all the shiny bits] is probably worth ~$5k, as it is.

Is the car worth $70? If the builder used OEM steel flares, and the motor and running gear are legitimate, I doubt this car could be reproduced for under $100k.

That's a hell of a great looking car. With a ~$70,000 ask, I'm guessing it can be had for low $60's? That's a lot of eye candy for the dollar. Compare that to a real 911 Turbo, which would cost double that amount. If you're looking for a car to drive the hell out of, this one seems like a good candidate. Love love love that interior!

A real 930 could be had easily in that price range. I wouldn't touch this car IMHO.

Wow that's cool. Thnx for posting that Carfax mileage history AC.

In the condition it "looks" from the advertising pics, 236k miles actually makes this a very cool driver in my opinion. I would drive that thing daily, and try to continue racking up the miles!!

But of course if the chassis really does have that kinda thrashing, they better have put some serious duckets into the bushings, bearings, etc (not just the motor & body). AND they should be asking at least $15k less realistically.
But that's what kinda makes this an attractive car IMHO!!

Get a PPI, negotiate that price down, and then go drive the tires off that thing!!

This is really cool looking and no doubt lots has been put into it however This will be hard to move in the future. There is a pristine, 2001 996 TT, 6 speed, 13K miles, here on RL asking 52K. Thats the car to buy, it will have serious upside in the future IMHO and would be a worry free super car for far less than your looking at here.

That's a lot of scratch for a frankenturbo with a quarter mil miles.
930 prices are correcting, yes you can get a real one for 70k.
Edit, just re-read your post, I'd give serious thought to using a 930 or pseudo 930 as a dd. First, the ac sucks, heat sucks, fuses and relays are ancient, summer stop and go traffic is a killer. Unless you're very handy and astute in doing air cooled repairs yourself, they can be daunting and $$$ to keep. Weekend car, hell yes! DD, not so much.
That 996tt would be a much better car.

Main thing is its not a 930, says 3.4, may be a great Hotrod, for $55kish with good PPI, I have a similar car just for Fun, 700hp 3.5, 993 body etc, motor alone is $40k+.

Thanks for all the replies, once again I learned a great deal reading through a Rennlist thread.

Looks like this is not the car for me, but DAMN is it pretty.

Every single picture is photoshopped so it hard to even get a sense of how good the car really is cosmetically.
