Question Exhaust for '79

My Euro '79 needs a new exhaust, and I'd like to go as original as possible, what would you recommend?

The correct part number seems to be 930 011 037 00, but that is NLA from Porsche.

Autoatlanta sells this Dansk http://www.autoatlanta.com/results.p...111%20037%2000

But most of the 79 930s I've seen have one tip out, and this one seems to have 2.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Henry,

You're correct in describing the dilemma of trying to source a proper '79 930 Euro exhaust for your car. All '79 MY 930's used the 3" single out muffler. The dual outlet type was first used on the '80 MY RoW 930's.

There may be aftermarket mufflers that you can purchase if you want the large single out look that came on your Euro '79 but the original design from Porsche is NLA. Used '78/'79 930 OEM single out mufflers show up occasionally but, as our cars age, are getting harder and harder to find.

For closeness of looks to original a Monty is almost identical to factory see pics,
I chose it for this reason as mine was rusted out and no good. Mine is a Twin out but they come with single out also and in same dimensions.

Performance? the company says up to 22hp but I always take figures like that with salt ie; the Air filters by BMC which the company says gives superior flow and adds 10 to 15hp to your Porsche but it actually doesn't and in blind tests that compared stock the bmc and the other brand (I forgot) the factory air cleaner came out on top!

So with that in mind I don't know how much better over stock but I do know the engine feels less encumbered I assume because of the easy Exhaust flow these mufflers give, i do feel it at the foot and I have done about 40000kikometres over the last 12 months in it and so far no problem, I think they (Monty) are really underrated, they also sound wonderfully quietly BAD its not too loud but just sounds loud and good enough to let people your not to be trifled with

ive also included link to a vid after I put new ignition in you can hear it running if that helps to inform you about the Monty Muffler, cost around $1000-$1200 AUD

All of the 1979 930 turbos came with the single outlet muffler. The change came in 1980 ROW cars. It is interesting that the late '79 U.S. cars (1980 builds) got some of the other changes (Nippondenso, small headlight washer, adj bezels etc) but did not get the dual outlet muffler.

In a lot of the cases were you see a dual outlet muffler on a 1979, it was either a replacement muffler or part of a exhaust change to a later style complete exhaust set up. The muffler design was changed again in 1983 with the deletion of the waste gate pipe. There will be a separate muffler or pipe coming off the waste gate and venting to the atmosphere for those.

The original single outlet Bischoff muffler is very hard to find. Probably at this time one of the hardest parts to find, at least in good condition for our cars. The only used Porsche parts dealer that I could find that had one of the originals was Einmalig and at the time they wanted over $900 for it. Freislinger has them new and want around $2,000. I am not sure if they are the original ones (dated '79) or were made later.

Thanks, I have sent a request to both Monty and Freislinger

Pelican offers a Fabspeed that also looks similar to stock.

Anyone has experience with Fabspeed?

+1
Totally correct, all '79 MY 930's used the single outlet Bischoff muffler. My post from yesterday was in error and has been corrected.
Although the NA 2nd Build Type '79 MY 930's were built at the same time as the '80 MY RoW 930's, it's possible Porsche decided to stay with the single out style so as not to mess with DoT emissions they had already certified for 1979. Interesting that the '80 MY Row 930's were fitted with the dual outlet muffler for noise abatement but the NA cars did not change.

I have a 1982 930 which also has the 4 pipe exhaust.
Out of curiosity I check with Freisinger in Germany who apparently can offer the mufflers.
They quoted Euro 7.000 for 930.111.038.52 (Muffler) and Euro 1.200 for 930.123.963.50 being the
muffler for the bypass. Not sure whether having the original exhaust is worth that kind of money....

I checked with Freisinger and they quoted 2,000 Euro for a NOS, but they would not send a picture or confirma part number...

Once you take into account shipping and import duties, I'd end up with a $3K muffles,

I did find a good used one with Brian however
