Default Model Changes

9eleven....thanks for the info...

From what I gather....the facts you have posted are not 100% accurate...

It appears that the elephant style washers were switched over within 10 or so vin# from my car.....exactly where I am not sure...I was looking into this on the 1979 Turbo registry on FB...

Also, from my photos above you can see that I have the Flush Headlight washers and I can confirm the 85mph speedo. Would be interesting to look into this...

My guess...at some point, they realized these cars would be arriving USA stateside AFTER the 9/1 cut off date and the speedo, headlight washers and maybe a few other items were included on early vin builds that what your posting is reflecting...

Yeah Tracy I'm thinking because of the euro delivery your car got all the "later" 1980 changes. Does it have a Nippondenso compressor? I noticed the later center vent and no snorkel washers. This is interesting because I thought the later changes were based on chronological VINs. But if it was held back and not delivered till Oct of '79 then yes, it would probably have all the changes of the later built cars 9/79 and later. You have to understand that the 85 speedos were often changed out of late '79 cars and the mileage/ speedo swap was never documented. Many savvy 930 buyers will notice and question this discrepancies. As long as it's documented in the maintenance book you should be good.. Very nice car, I think you should keep in the family, it's a special car. I'm thinking one owner car, original paint car, $90-110k Good luck

Default Speedo

My Dad did not do a Euro Delivery...he bought it from stock from a So Cal. dealer...He happened to be on vacation in Europe that summer and that's when he first saw the 79 Turbo and had to have one...We changed out the AC compressor for a rotary unit years ago...not sure why..think because the piston unit kept throwing belts? Though I could be wrong..that was many years ago...

I know the owner of the VIN # right after mine....his car is as new...7,xxx miles...same color EVERYTHING...he has the same 85mph speedo, washers etc...

I remember telling dad we should change the 85MPH speedo thinking it was stupid as it was VERY EASY to go over 85mph in that car....Glad he didnt listen to me!

There are very few absolutes when it come to old Porsche's, you can get a kardex for early cars but not for later ones. This car seems early to have all the updates but it has them. Beautiful car, it will be a great car for someone wanting a 79 930.

It's a Sunday car, goes out for some short twisties ...usually wind up at Topanga Super car Sunday or the Rock store.
Mileage is approx 11,750 original miles/ original owner.
I had a cold start rich condition a few years ago, just had to replace the Cali spec "Cold spark module". Other than that just oil + filter, check the valves and a tank of 100 octane. Recently replaced the intercooler o-ring seals, one hour R+R.
MSDS stainless exhaust, front oil cooler, Denso a/c, and 930s front valence upgrades; but all factory parts are stored.

A good friend of my Brother worked at Andial and Vasek Polak. He was at Callas but I think he left there. I'll ask him where he's at
