Default Dr Fuhrmann 'orthopaedic' Seats

Thinking about clearing space in the garage to contribute towards and make room for another Porsche. Amongst the parts i'm considering parting with are a pair of Fuhrmann seats, black leather and good condition. I know they are rare but are they sought after? How do I value them?

Does anyone know the factory option code?

Where the hell did you source those? Rare?, absolutely. Cannot help with the option code but I've only seen them in a few cars, specifically the Martini 930s '78-'79 and a few '79s state-side as well. Nice piece of Porsche 930 history...

I actually came across them a couple of years ago by chance. They were listed on a well known internet auction site. After speaking with the then owner (who is a 930 owner and respected PCGB member ) a deal was done.
All i knew then and now for that matter, is that they are rare and i had never seen another set for sale, ever! Nor since! Hence the conundrum ... How on earth do i value them?

Nice seats! But are they for a 911 or 928?..I've seen a 928 with similar seats.

These are 930 fitment. First seen in the 1976 Martini 930 show car and offered as $4000 option from 1977.

I don't think these are a 930 exclusive. They were available in the 928 too...I've seen a pair in one at least. Also there is a 1976 Martini 3.0 Carrera similar to the Martini 930 that has them too...pics are in a thread somewhere on Pelican.

So are they actually comfortable? I think most here are probably curious how they compare to early and late sport and non-sport seats!

As midnite says below, I think they were available in a 928 at the time. They probably available in any car, if you wanted to pay!

However, later 928 seats (which I think used the same core as regular late ('85-'98?) seats) had unique cushioning which resembles the Fuhrmann seats. Perhaps they were modeled after them.

I remember that. It was a barn-find car IIRC? Interior restoration quite impressive.

I've also seen them in a 928 and a hand full of late '70 early '80 911's, Which isn't that strange considering Porsche offered the seat as a option from 1977 (edbiggie confirms this). The reason they are so rare will undoubtedly have something to do with the huge price tag at the time.

@edbiggie, what is your opinion on seats and comfort? do you know the option number?

Still looking for advice on the best way to establish market value

Looked thought my files on all the cars he ordered for a number but I do not think a number was ever given to them just the dr's name. Have talked to many Porsche guys not a lot of info about them out there!!
As far as a value (that's a hard one) the oddity is great but I think most collector cars guys are looking to buy cars with the ordered items on the build sheet with the car. So may be hard to find that needle in the haystack guy!!!
But they are so ugly they are cool!

Here is a link to Pistonheads.com with a listing for a 1983 930 with Dr Fuhrmann Orthopedic Seats making it likely they were still available as an option in 930's up to that date.
