There is an ugly rumor floating around that one of our "regular" posting members has quietly bought a 3 liter Turbo Carrera without telling us, asking our opinions (well ...he did ask me ), sharing photos, sharing details like the very good story about locating this car, etc, etc....

I really shouldn't divulge his identity (pu911rsr) but since he won't share the funny story about finding this car .......I will !

As some of you know, Phil has owned several Porsches and a few of them have been 3.3 Turbos......he might even own one now !

So....... a few weeks ago, Phil's wife mentions that she was driving through town (Bozeman MT) and she saw a older Porsche sitting on a used car lot. Phil says; "Yeah.....whatever......probably some clapped out mid '70s SC. Another week or so passes and she asks; "Did you ever stop and look at that Porsche ?" Phil finally gets around to swinging by the dealership on a run through town and what-d-ya know.......It's an '77 Turbo Carrera.

Not only is it a '77 Turbo Carrera.......BUT it is a "Special Wishes" car in PTS Metallic Black with mahogany brown interior.

Does he share this with kindred Spirits ?........NO......I have to rat on him !

Curious minds want to know;

What are the chances of finding a "Special wishes" Early Turbo on a car lot ?

What are the chances of finding a "Special wishes" Early Turbo on a car lot in Bozeman MT .........A thousand miles from nowhere ?

What are the chances of someones wife repeatedly giving her husband a "heads up" on something that's obviously going to take $ out of their bank account ? ! !? !?! !

And finally, what kind of Knucklehead doesn't follow up on a reliable tip ASAP especially when he's also being prodded (NO ....hounded) by a fellow RLister as well (me) to move quickly on this car!

Does he really even deserve this car ?

Hopefully, now that he's been "Outed" (oops, can you say that on this forum?) he share with us some more details and photos !

That's just like idart and his 75 turbo. That damned car was on a car lot in Colorado! It's good to see the RL and Fchat guys on the bird.

Did "idart" or any of his compadres post his story on RL for the community to enjoy ? If so, I missed it !

I am so busted, . It's a great story, two owner car originally from Bend, OR. Paint to sample metallic black- paint code 707, which I have never seen before. I owned a 79 metallic black but this is a much darker color. The dark brown interior is a stunning match. Engine rebuilt at Squire's a few years back, car runs extremely strong. I must say driving the car for the first time was an eye opener for me- I've owned three 79's, the early turbo's are really quite different in the way they spool up and make boost. The reduced weight is also immediately noticeable. I've always wanted one of these but had figured the market had gotten ahead of me and it just wasn't to happen, and yes I will buy my wife some roses and good box of chocolate! I'll get some better pics posted as weather allows.

Here are some photos of the 1975 930 that I purchased last May. It was a beautiful sight in the dealer’s showroom in Denver. The car had a few mods but it came with almost all of the original parts (15” Fuchs, 300kmh speedo, 380mm steering wheel, original ‘75 speaker leather dash, exhaust, original driver’s mirror, etc.). It was very odd to see a 1975 930 in Colorado that didn’t have any grey market mods but little did I know just how interesting the history of this car would be.

From the paperwork that came with the car, I was able to locate the original owner, Fred Veitch and he positively identified it from the plastic cap in the rear bumper where he originally mounted a CB antenna. Fred is good friends with Dieter Inzenhofer (one of the co-founders of ANDIAL), and in the summer of 1975, Dieter called Fred and told him about two “new” 1975 930's (silver and black) that were at Vasek Polak in California. Fred tracked this 930 at Riverside, Aspen, Monterey, and the Seattle 1975 Porsche Parade. ANDIAL modified it for track use in 1975 with a trunk strut brace, racing harness mounts and transmission final gear ratio change (all of these mods are still on the car). The silver and black 930’s sold by Vasek Polak in 1975 were the first two 930’s in the U.S. and Fred believes the black ’75 930 may be a survivor as he heard a rumor that it was in Texas about 10 years ago.

Fred gave me a few vintage photos of the car including one with him at the wheel in Riverside, California in Jan ’76 (placed 1st in class K), and several at the 1975 Porsche Parade where it was first in his class at the track event. Another photo shows the car in Pueblo, Colorado in the summer of 1975 with an ANDIAL license plate frame. It also appeared in several 1976 issues of Porsche Panorama.

I received the PCNA COA several months ago and the engine and transmission numbers match the chassis number, 9305700160. It was a non-optioned A/C, sunroof coupe from the factory. It has over 112K miles and is definitely not a garage queen, but despite the high mileage, it is in an amazing state of preservation with the original black leather interior and almost all of the original parts that came on the car in 1975. It was repainted by the second owner in 1985, and Fred told me it may have repainted been due to an unsightly minor scrape on the passenger rear fender that occurred at a track event when Fred still had the car in the late 1970’s.

Congrats, beautiful color combo. There are still a few under valued Turbo Carreras being bought/sold. Some people/dealers still aren't aware of the upturn in the market value on these cars. My '77 was purchased in a similar way as the private dealer missed the sale price by a fair margin. These "buys" are becoming few and far between. You better have some luck and be ready to buy. More pics please!

+1, and what also helps is the price guide values for the ’76-77 Turbos (new Excellence Magazine price guide still has them priced at the bottom of the 930 barrel). I’ve been looking at 930’s on eBay for several years and I can’t remember any nice ‘76/77 930's listed with a 7-day auction.

Phil, expound on this a bit.

Were the non-intercooled cars limited to 0.6 bar of boost with a 6.5 cr from the factory? If so, I'd suspect they were designed to deliver power in a more gradual, linear, manner compared to the intercooled cars.
