Hello All, 2nd day of being a Turbo owner and 1st day here... Well I have driven my 1986 930 for 5 hours and have my first problem. Manuals not due for a week or so and going to the library for diagrams on Sunday.

Here my the problem. Last night while driving, the low beam lights just shut off, scared me to death thinking my new Porsche was going to go up in flames because of a short..

But then after checking obvious wires, I turned the switch back on and BOOM the high beams where on and now will not shut off. I checked voltage at the fuse panel and there is nutin on the low side even if you flip the brights switch... Someone over at 911Turbo said they thought they read an article about faulty switch casuing this but could not confirm...Can someone please help?

Richard: I have an '89 930. During a drive about 2 months ago I flicked on the high beams and a puff of smoke billowed up from my steering column - it smelled electrical. Anyway, my highs stayed on as well. Turned out I shorted the switch that controls high beams and turn signals. You'll have to remove the steering wheel. The part cost a couple hundred bucks.

most likely you have higher wattage headlight bulbs. high watt bulbs need a relay installed after the fuse, so the relay takes the gaff, rather than the hi/lo switch.
