I just bought a mint 1989 930
I just picked up a immaculate 1989 930. It is a funky color, Velvet Red on Linen interior. The car is bone stock with 30K miles. What can i do to get some power without going into heavy engine work. Basically bolt on mods. Also do i have a K26 or a K27 in the 89' ? Thanks for the help.

Welcome to the Club!
The color combination sounds like a paint to sample, definately cool. If everything's 100% original then you don't have the K27 7200 that's the rage in these cars.
There is tons of information on what to do and quite a few people who know how to do it. Some regular contributors and sponsors like ImagineAuto and Rennsport Systems really know there stuff so the sky's the limit.
My advice, enjoy it and learn it in it's present state of tune, plan out what things you "might" want to improve while all the while researching what others have done. Once you have your program mapped out then go for it.
Oh, don't forget, Drive it like you stole it! They love to be driven hard.

I looked at that car - nice color combination. I ended up buying a '91 C2 Turbo because it had many of the modifications I would have done:
1. K29 Turbo
2. 1 bar spring
3. GHL stainless headers
4. B&B stainless muffler
5. SC cams
6. Andial fuel enrichment
7. Greddy turbo timer
8. H&R springs
9. 18" 3.6 turbo wheels
I think the intercooler on the C2 is large enough to support the K29, but for a '89, you might want to add that to the list.

Hi Andrew - I recently acquired an 86 930 with an already upgraded turbo. The turbo upgrades do make a difference - mostly in reducing lag. My turbo starts to spool up at about 2800 RPM, which was the quickest of the various 86-89 930s I test drove. I am about to have a performance clutch pack installed, which will supposedly get the RPMs up quicker (with a little less weight as well). This is probably not as big of a deal in the 89 as you have the 5 speed transmission. I am also having an adjustable waste gate spring installed to be set at 1 bar. I am told (by just about everyone) that this is a safe upgrade without needing any other modifications and will get you 20% more boost (perhaps 40 extra HP or so at 1 bar). As pig4bill pointed out in the performance mod thread, it does look like there are many other "bolt-on" upgrades that can be made for more HP (i.e., check out http://www.huntleyracing.com ). I personally am not looking for more HP, but want better low-end torque and drivability. The other popular upgrade, as JBH noted, is replacing the headers. I am told this really improves low-end torque, but I am in CA and this system is not CA legal as it bypasses the cat.

JBH,
Classy colour. Looks handsome.
Are the wheels the RH ones as they dont seem to shine as much as the original 3.6 turbo ones? Its the best Porsche red I have seen so far. Regards.

Thanks Ran.
I would like to see some more pics of the Velvet Red 930 mentioned above (hint, hint)
Yes they are the 18" RH wheels. They came with the car - they are straight and true 9" in the front and 11" in the back.
I really don't know much about RH wheels - I assume they would be ok for DE events and track use.
